My wife (Samantha Skerrett - Canada Immingration Consultant) selected that we watch Pretty Woman on our date night. We got discounted tickets through #todaytixs app. The theatre was a fabulous place a great vibrant environment. However let's talk about the show. The show Pretty Woman, there was nothing wrong with the idea, the problem begins with the creators choice. The first scene was awfully cheesy, the attempt to add street dance with I dont know what....the dancers looked uncomfortable and the dance was not a natural flow. Before I continue ...I am a Headteacher, Professional Dancer/Choreographer in Street Dance, Singer/ Songwriter and Events Organiser and note I am only giving my opinion. It's my personal opinion that only 2 characters carried the show and this was the Manager and the Butler....they were exciting to watch and especially when they engaged with the audience. The lead female...needed to be much taller, she should of had ginger hair and stronger vocals. The scenes of kissing in the play was totally unnecessary, it wasnt required, it drag on to long and we can all use our imagination. Some scenes in the show did drag😴...and on two occasions, I found myself nodding off. The lead male, well what can I say. He could hold a note, very mediocre with vocals, good acting, average dance ability. In the second half a person was introduced that could sing opera...WOW....the voice was amazing ...however big disappointment😩😔...her ability to sing opera was fused with a modern song which just made the whole thing just weird a bit like eating peanut butter and egg sandwich (why on earth would you do that). About the songwriter....friggin eck🙄...that person just through some words together and was like ...hey this will work....NO...IT WILL NOT WORK...you cant do that to people .....EMOTIONAL DAMAGE...do not work on a song alone if the lyrics SUCK.. There is absolutely nothing wrong with sharing the credits and the pay..just dont subject people to having to sing or listen to awful lyrics.
This show has so much scope for improvement, I do hope that they do try and fix these issues as all the crew has put in so...
Read moreWe went for a one night only performance and upon arrival our bags were searched. We headed downstairs to the bar but half of the area was closed. It was a small area anyway but made incredibly cramped with no seating for elderly, pregnant or disabled people. I’m assuming the staff were all new and employed for just this one night as they knew absolutely nothing about the theatre/amenities. We asked where the toilets were and an usher said the toilets were not open. In a slight panic she said that we could use the disabled toilet and she unlocked it for us. Whilst we were waiting to go in another audience member asked where the cloakroom as so they could drop off their bags. They were told that the cloakroom wasn’t open either and there should be plenty of room to put bags under the seats in front (not true). The performance was noted to finish at 10:20pm on the website and tickets but the usher was very certain that it would go on until at least 10:35pm. The people we sat next to had to leave half way through to ensure they could catch the last train as the new performance time would mean they’d miss it. Overall not a great impression of the Savoy, however I understand some of these things may be out of their control. The tickets were expensive though so it felt like a waste of money as we also had to leave half way through to ensure we didn’t miss...
Read moreI had a VIP experience at the Savoy Theatre in the Ambassadors Lounge. I saw Dreamgirls but I'm going to focus my review on the Savoy Theatre itself rather than the show. The service in the Ambassadors Lounge was exemplary and made the whole theatre-going experience much more comfortable. Upon arrival we were taken to our table in the lounge and shown the private washroom along the way, our escort also put our coats/luggage in the private cloakroom. The lounge is beautiful and savoury nibbles were laid out waiting for us. We had our own server who was amazing and there was a large selection of sweet/savoury snacks, hot/alcoholic/soft drinks available as well as bagels. At showtime our escort took us down a 'secret' staircase to our seats and met us during the interval as well as after the show. At hometime our belongings were waiting for us in the Lounge- no queuing with a ticket and we were shown the way out via a discreet side exit. The whole night was amazing and I personally appreciated everything even more as I hate the crowds when moving around venues and feeling bogged down with coats and bags while in my seat, as well as the queues for the main toilets and the inevitable slow crush of people leaving at the end of the performance. If you can experience the Ambassadors Lounge I highly...
