We stayed for a weekend (two nights) with several musical visits in the West End and chose the ME primarily because of its location. Anyone who has stayed in London before knows: even if you pay a lot, you usually get very little in return. That’s why we decided to spend significantly more this time in the hope of having a stress-free and unforgettable stay. Since we were traveling with a toddler and needed a bit more space, we booked a Junior Suite. Including breakfast, we spend between £500 and £600 per night – quite a hefty price!
First of all, I want to point out that the staff at this hotel – from security at the entrance to the reception team to the housekeeping service – is incredibly friendly and helpful.
Upon arrival, your luggage is taken care of, you’re offered a welcome drink (champagne or an alternative), and upon departure they’ll arrange a taxi for you if desired.
The room was clean, furnished to a very high standard, and impressed with luxurious little touches such as various creams, bath products, a Dyson hairdryer, and fresh fruit. The air-conditioned Junior Suite features two TVs, two dressing tables, a huge shower with two rainfall shower heads, a massive bed, and a bathtub. There were two entrances to the toilet – one from the bedroom/bathroom and one from the entrance/hallway, which is very practical when hosting guests. Unfortunately, the air conditioning was sometimes quite loud. In addition, the doors could not be closed quietly because they scraped against the floor.
You also receive a £50 voucher for the restaurant, room service, etc., when booking.
When redeeming this voucher, we ordered a Margherita pizza (£18) and a sandwich with fries (Croque Madame, £22) to our room – unfortunately, we had to wait over 1.5 hours for them to arrive. Both tasted good, but nothing extraordinary. For room service, there’s an additional £5 delivery fee plus a 12.5% service charge on the cost of the food.
The breakfast concept is à la carte only – there’s no buffet. In general, it’s nice to be served, but at times it took up to half an hour for us to get our coffee. Drinks are plentiful, but food options are very limited unless you’re willing to pay extra. For example, a typical “included” combination might be “a small selection of berries, 1.5 slices of toast, 2 pancakes” or “a bowl of Bircher muesli, a small butter croissant, an omelette.” For what you get – especially in terms of quantity – the prices are extremely high. One morning, I ordered a “charcuterie” plate described as “a selection of artisanal cured meats, salami & cheese” – what I received was a plate with five slices of ham. I even had to order butter separately. If your vacation breakfast style is “eat enough in the morning to skip lunch,” this is not the right place for you; you’d be better off having breakfast elsewhere. That said, everything did taste very good.
At check-out, the bill also included another 5% (over £100) for an “optional” gratuity. If you don’t explicitly ask about it, it will simply be charged automatically.
All in all, there are hidden fees and gratuities everywhere, clearly banking on the assumption that guests have enough disposable income not to notice these extra charges. Given the already very high room prices, I find this absolutely inappropriate.
In conclusion, the hotel can definitely be recommended if you love luxury and want to treat yourself. However, in my opinion, it does not offer particularly good value for money. That‘s why I give it 3...
Read moreWe stayed here mainly for the location and as a special Valentine’s treat for a theatre trip. Hotel is very modern and ‘trendy’, check in was quite a long process but we received a free glass of bubbles and staff were friendly, There was an ‘event’ going on in the reception area which was very loud and didn’t give us a great first impression - dogs included! When we finally saw the lobby on check out it is a lovely space with amazing moving art and nice seating. I would suggest not holding ‘events’ in reception. We waited a while for the lift and were eventually taken to our river view terrace room on the 9th floor and showed around. The terrace rooms are great for smokers with amazing views and the room was spacious and included everything you could want, from a huge ring light, robes, slippers, shaving kit, toothbrush set, umbrella, steamer, Dyson hairdryer, all toiletries and many ports and attachments for all phones. Coffee machine with fully stocked mini bar (chargeable) but free water and tea/coffee. Magazines, welcome cake and champagne, the amenities were really Impressive. The only downsides for me were the bed was not that comfortable, too hard although very large and being right below the rooftop bar the noise/music was constant! Also the tv is strangely mounted too low on the wall, it needs to be higher as you can’t see the bottom of it when you’re in bed! |The corridors are purposely very dark, it’s apparently an art effect with the bedrooms then being very light and bright but we found the corridors dangerously dark! I would not be happy as a lone female walking these corridors, or as an older person. Breakfast was exceptional! Served from 7-11. Everything you could want including Spanish omelette and honey straight off the hive, well worth the high price tag although ours was included in the room rate. (Full English £21.00). The rooftop area is also a great space for breakfast. Sadly we didn’t like it as a bar in the evening, we waited a long time to be seated but all we wanted to do was have one drink at the bar and have a walk outside. Well you can’t go to the bar and you can’t get outside, so we sat inside and waited even longer to be served from our table. One stool was broken. We were given a free drink but some of the cocktails were £24.00! I would not choose to drink here with all the other establishments to choose from in London. The worst thing for us was that you couldn’t seem to use the stairs even if you wanted to. We only wanted to walk from floor 9 to 10 but the door at the top on floor 10 was locked so we came back down again and waited for the lift. This must be a fire hazard surely? I would have preferred the option to use stairs but they were hard to find. Overall a good experience at the ME and I would recommend it for young people. Unfortunately I wouldn’t stay here again though as the room prices are extortionate. I did not pay for this stay but I believe this room would have been around £450.00! A bit overpriced in my opinion but that’s central London for you! 4 stars as some improvements could be made and due to the prices, it’s not...
Read moreI think Me London have ruined all other hotel experiences for us in the future. My husband booked our trip as a belated birthday trip. Right from the outset we were well looked after. After taking a fall outside on our way in the concierge team were comforting & helpful & got us all sorted for check in. And helped to take a look for local opticians to fix my broken glasses. The foyer is beautiful with a lounge/bar with mince pies, water & Christmas sweets for guests as well as a paying bar. On the first floor you find reception where you check in. Unfortunately our experience with check in wasn't so great as we had downloaded the Meliá app & virtually checked in, paid & signed the contract but the reception had no information about this and attempted to charge my husband again. Thankfully he had the confirmation of payment on his banking app.
We stayed in the Energy River Room & the view was amazing - see photos! We had a balcony, which even in the freezing temperatures allowed sheltered seating to view the London scenery. And what a view it was, we were very lucky to arrive on a crisp sunny day & the view went for miles & was amazing. Had we realised how much stuff was provided we'd have packed much lighter. There was pretty much everything you could have wanted/needed ready in the room. Robes & slippers with a surprising night time turn down with bed mats & slippers set, mood lighting established & chocolates for bed time. The bathroom has his & hers sinks with a rainfall & hand held shower. Dental & hair kits all provided. Additionally there was not only the expected dryer but also ghd straighteners in the room. The wardrobe was large with plenty of hangers. The bed was huge & incredibly comfy. You can control all the lighting from a panel next to the bed. There was a coffee maker & we were delighted when the service team recognised we drank decaf so replenished these items for us. The team replenished our water every time it was empty. There's a mini bar & a safe. And a kettle with the coffee machine. We ventured to the rooftop restaurant for breakfast on our final day, the conservatory type area was lovely with heaters for comfort & had it not been foggy I imagine an amazing view again. They catered well for my husband who requires gluten free food. I enjoyed a freshly made omelette (contents your choice x 3). The TV had radio & music options as well as a selection of sky channels. The concierge took care of our luggage at the end of our stay to allow us to enjoy another full day in London & would have arranged us a car to the station had we not opted to tube it. Despite the central London location the sound proofing must be amazing as the rooms were so quiet. We heard little to no traffic noise, only the bells from the local church. We're currently trying to figure out how we can afford to come again, with or without the kids. Thank you for a great stay & for looking...
