MEET Quarter — Restaurant in London

I hope this review is taken the way it's intended: honestly and constructively. It's really great to have local restaurant that serves (objectively) great food. A mix of things to improve in other areas could really help elevate the experience as the team continue to figure things out as I'm conscious the restaurant is only a few weeks old at this point so teething issues are natural.

1. Cloth napkins rather than serviettes: this would help give a more premium vibe that the restaurant is going for.
2. Asking if we want more water: we had glasses of tap water (with ice because it was otherwise room temperature) and we were asked if we wanted a top up. Noticing we needed a refill and doing so instead of asking (or worse, having us ask) is the hallmark of top quality service.
3. Steak knives: I ordered steak which didn't come with a steak knife. While the stuck was cut very nicely, and was indeed very soft, bringing a steak knife elevates this from casual eatery.
4. Food coming out too quickly: we were in and out in about 50 minutes as it was, unfortunately, quite quiet. Our food came out in maybe ~10-12 minutes after ordering. Which, when you're doing one course, makes this feel like a very quick meal.
5. Quality of service: the service was fine which, for the prices (as discussed in point 6) is simply not enough. The service ought to be excellent, and the staff don't appear to be particularly highly trained - this is treated like any other waiting job, and, again for the prices charged, it shouldn't be.
6. Prices: this is more than likely a sign of the impending bubble that's about to burst with regards to the economy, but the price did not match the expectation of both service and food. We had a steak, a risotto, chips, creamed spinach, and two non-alcoholic drinks which came to £95. £95 for one course each, two sides, and two soft drinks. That price bracket dramatically increases the level of expectation that a customer has, regardless of how good the actual food is - everything else has to be top-drawer.

I stress that I write this because I am really hopeful that MEET Quarter can succeed. It has the trappings of a great restaurant and I know it can get there with some fine tuning in the weeks and months ahead. My boyfriend and I celebrate our birthdays together (his is the day after mine, which makes planning easy and buying two cakes totally justifiable). We always try to make it a memorable meal—and this one? Top tier. No notes. Just food, joy, and mild meat sweats.

We had our eyes (and appetites) set on the Ox Cheek Croquettes, but alas, they were out. Heartbreaking? Yes. Did we recover? Also yes. I had the watermelon and feta salad (so refreshing I briefly considered writing poetry about it), and my boyfriend had the salt and pepper squid—crispy, tender, gone in 60 seconds.

Then came the Tomahawk sharing steak. A dinosaur-sized slab of pure joy. We were warned—warned!—that most people don’t finish it. Challenge accepted. Challenge destroyed. We inhaled it. The staff member who told us that looked at us like we had just completed an Olympic event. (Honestly, we deserved medals.)

And speaking of the staff—absolute gems. Every single one of them was warm, friendly, attentive, and genuinely made the evening feel special. We were especially touched by the surprise birthday ice cream at the end. It’s those little moments of kindness that stick with you.
