Memsaab Islington — Restaurant in London

The fact that the the place was completely empty on a Sunday evening should have been a big red flag. The starters were fine but our mains were the sweetest versions of saag paneer and chicken tikka masala I’ve ever had. Everything honestly tasted like dessert versions of these dishes. Even the garlic naan was ridiculously sweet. When we asked why everything was so sweet they told us that the dishes we ordered had milk and cream which made them sweet. We said that never in all our years eating this food had we ever had anything taste like someone had just poured sugar into everything. The manager, who had originally said he would take 10 percent off our order. But then seemed to get annoyed that we said his food was too sweat then didn’t actually take any money off our meal and we ended up paying full price for our disgusting food, most of which we left uneaten. If you like chicken tikka masala that tastes like someone dumped a bowl of sugar in it and everything else you get extremely sweet then definitely check this place out. Otherwise, I recommend avoiding it like everyone else who wasn’t dining there when were there and find somewhere...

New management have now displaced replacement chef and appointed talented newcomer, who is not wedded to inexorable chilli, and appreciates the subtle potential of traditional spicing. In association with the vision of the excellent manager (an intelligent and diligently local man into organic vegetables that he cultivated himself) is steering it back to its best. Beautifully presented in a stylish environment (an old Victorian pub that has had a thoughtful makeover). The staff are great guys who really want you to enjoy the experience of the meal.
