DJ HARVEY THE FINAL CHAPTER AND JARVIS COCKER MINISTRY OF SOUND 16 Dec 2017 âRIP IT UP AND START AGAINâ With a stinking cold I was in two minds, should I go or should I stay? Yes I adore DJ Harvey âyeah but no butâ, then when Jarvis Cocker with Steve Mackey popped up, that was it even if I was a deathâs door I was going! I have loved Jarvis through the years seeing him in concert some years back in Hyde Park ( MIND BLOWING ) and never miss Jarvis Cockerâs Sunday Service on BBC Radio 6 Music â the BEST station on Mother Earth. A few years back Jarvis mentioned on the show that he had spun the decks for Duckie at the RVT, and I thought wow how cool. So how could I miss this rare opportunity and I was not disappointed, the two hour set flew by in the blink of an eye, I loved his mc and sharing of chocolates and tangerines, with the lovely quirky lights so Jarvis spinning some vinyl, it was pure joy to experience Jarvis and Steve. When Jarvis Cocker & Steve Mackey played Orange Juice - Rip it Up ( and start again ) I went CRAZY with joy, never in all my intense years of clubbing has a track been so apt so on point. Only the day previous has I decided to finally put the fiasco behind me â since December 15th 2016 I had often been at a very low ebb experiencing black despair it was eating away at me like a mental cancer. There is a legal case to answer but the chances of even recouping anything from the person that took advantage of me are remote. âRIP IT UP AND START AGAINâ â made me cry with joy and just minutes ago I RIPPED UP all the papers and feel like a huge burden has been lifted. The icing on the cake of yet ANOTHER fantabulous MOS experience was having some precious moments to have my photo taken with Jarvis and to share how much I respect this beautiful lovely gentle man. Was fab that so many people remembered me from Love International in Croatia. Over the years I have worn some quite âOUTâlandish âOUTâfits however last night to be finally reduced to a pink open crotch body stocking with a tiny pink slip speaks VOLUMES about how comfortable the clubbers AND staff make me feel. Yet a very well known âgayâ venue ( not the RVT ) in SE London would have instructed me to âCOVER UP.â and has barred me at least three times. Huge respect to this brilliant venue for never forgetting and to still celebrate Paradise Garage AND Larry Lavan which in part inspired the creation of this âSUPERâ Club. Thank-you Ministry of Sound ( I have so fallen in âloveâ with the venue! ) for inviting Jarvis who played the most perfect sound-track of my life, you gave me the AFFIRMATION that I have done the right thing âRIP IT UP AND...
Read moreTLDR- -Good music -2 rooms -Standard prices for London -Very rude security -Risk of being refused entry without an explanation
Itâs decent, gets empty pretty quick. The prices are okay, I paid ÂŁ10 for entry and I donât drink so wouldnât know about those. The music was decent you can check what theyâre playing on their website. IDs are scanned so donât try with a fake. The smoking area is lovely and has heaters. Thereâs a tube station and loads of bus stops not far with 24 hour bus services so getting home is easy as well!
Edit: I've decided to come back and lower my review score, now that I have come here a few more times I have had some bad experiences. The bouncers/security at this place are honestly the worst you can find in London. They're very rude and seem to find enjoyment in removing people from the queue after they've waited and not letting them in, even though they paid for their tickets, and then refuse to refund these tickets. This didn't happen to me but if you go you will notice there's always a crowd of people in front of the entrance who they've done this to.
This happened to my friend the other day; he was removed from the queue with no reason and then ignored when he asked for one. After about 45 minutes, the only security guard which treated people with respect came out and started explaining to people why they were removed. Thing is, people were being told different reasons or reasons that didn't make sense (sober people being told they're too drunk, people not being allowed to enter with resale tickets which has never been an issue, people getting told their tickets were only valid until a certain time when tickets don't run out).
Very disrespectful security if that's the way customers who paid to enter a venue are treated its not worth paying.
I recommend Heaven over Ministry. The bouncers are very nice, respectful and will joke around, whilst also taking their responsibilities seriously, and there's live shows which are always very entertaining. Also you don't get ripped off for entry at Heaven.
Edit Number 2!! Had another problem gonna come back and...
Read moreBought a £13 ticket to get there before 11pm - there was no queue. Walked through a metal detector and got a basic frisk down by the security guard. Before you go inside, there's a very large undercover outdoor/smokers area with a bar. The music isn't too loud here, you could easily have a conversation. The main floor area was massive and had sitting booths to the back and an upstairs area to overlook the dancefloor. The lighting effects were very cool here and you could see where the DJ was playing. They played house in this area. Two sugarfree redbull vodkas cost £23 - very expensive for 2std drinks. Then I bought two rekorderligs and it cost £13.60 (2.6std drinks) - very reasonable. Then I bought two Gin & Juice by Dre & Snoop for £6 for 3std drinks!! They were absolutely disgusting though, nothing 'juicy' about them - the two should stick to making music! The bartender even provided a sticker to cover my made drinks with - I guess drink spiking is a huge problem in the UK. Up stairs to the right was another dancefloor with its own bar area - they were playing Hip Hop, it was very crowded and you could stand right infront of the DJ. The light works here were very basic. Downstairs to the left was another massive dancefloor area with no bar. The light works and sound were very good here. The DJ was above the dancefloor and played house. Upstairs and to the left was an area overlooking the dancefloor with a bar and toilets (which were very clean and nicer than the ones below). It wasn't crowded here, well airconditioned and there were plenty of booths to sit at, or even take a nap, LOL! They played mostly House but I didn't really hear any bangers or well-known tracks. They also seemed to play songs in full. Female toilets were to the left of the main dancefloor and were huge, probably 20 toilets in a well-lit area, though they had that ridiculous pull-a-single-sheet of toilet paper at a time there. It said free wifi was available but I wasn't able to connect to it. If I lived in London, I would come here every weekend - the layout, the sound systems, the lightworks,...
