On the surface, this is a really lovely gastropub - very clean, spacious, efficiently run by friendly staff... Pity that the food doesn't live up to the sleek and charming decor and the rather upmarket prices. For the second time in a row, my partner and I left relieved of £60 (no pudding, a single glass of wine for me, one pint of beer for him) having eaten a huge amount of delicious buttered bread and... well, the rest was, on both occasions, a bit of a culinary mess. Two incidents remain impressed in my memory: first, the time when I ordered a "chirashi bowl" only to discover that it was no chirashi, but rather something that I would describe as a deconstructed poke bowl with absolutely no fish in sight! Essentially, the 'dish' consisted of small lumps of boiled rice, some pickles, unappealingly unripe mango cubes and nondescript veggies in tiny quantities. Needless to say, I had to pay extra money to be served a small portion of pan-fried prawns to add to the 'chirashi/poke'. Itsu or any poke takeaway place would have charged me less than £10 and would have undoubtedly included at least two types of fish - at the Morgan Arms, the tasteless, loveless deconstructed "chirashi-not-chirashi" cost me around £20 with the prawn 'addition'. The second incident: the £9 "leek hearts"! I still cannot say what they intended to be - mostly because I could barely see them, let alone taste them! A magnifying glass (or a microscope, perhaps) would have helped. A truly heartless dish. Won't come back any time soon for food, unless they start providing the chefs with actual ingredients (beyond bread, butter and rice) that they can use for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Morgan Arms, our local pub. After three years of frequenting this establishment, it is disheartening to witness a consistent lack of available menu options, particularly during early evenings. This became particularly problematic when we brought our elderly parents, aged 65+, only to find that fish and chips and burgers were the sole options.
To make matters worse, the one braised lamb pie I managed to order was not only tasteless but also incredibly tough. We noticed other guests receiving sizeable portions of fish and chips and requested to cancel one from the order but we only received refusal, claiming it was almost ready. However, we ended up waiting an additional 15 minutes. There was a complete lack of generosity or understanding when it came to canceling the order.
Another disappointment was the mac and cheese we ordered, which did not arrive with our meal and was ultimately sent back due to its tasteless nature and the absence of truffle, as advertised on the menu. To add insult to injury, we were still charged for the mac and cheese, even after bringing it to the attention of the manager.
I feel compelled to share my genuine and deep disappointment with the current state at Morgan Arms. It is disheartening to see the decline in quality, service, and overall customer satisfaction.
Ridiculous reply, I do not think there will be another time as much as I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting The Morgan Arms, and I must say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The menu offered a wide range of dishes that catered to various tastes, from hearty pub classics to innovative modern plates. I opted for the chicken and mushroom pie, which was perfectly seasoned and accompanied by a generous serving of creamy mashed potatoes and cabbage. My friends tired the fish and chips and the beef burger, both of which received high praise.
But what truly set The Morgan Arms apart was the friendliness of the staff. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles from the two Charlies and a genuine eagerness to make our visit enjoyable. They were attentive and knowledgeable, offering great recommendations and ensuring our glasses were never empty. Even during the busier times of the evening, the staff maintained their professionalism and cheerfulness, which significantly enhanced our dining experience.
Overall, my visit to The Morgan Arms was overwhelmingly positive. The combination of delicious food, a welcoming atmosphere, and attentive service made it a memorable night out. I would highly recommend this pub to anyone looking for a fantastic meal in a friendly and inviting setting. It's clear that The Morgan Arms values its patrons and strives to provide an excellent dining experience, and they have certainly succeeded in doing so. We...
