Horrible Experience at Ole & Steen - Rude Staff and Double Charging!
I recently had an appalling experience at Ole & Steen that I feel compelled to share. From the moment I walked in, I was met with an unprofessional and messy environment that only worsened as my visit continued.
The manager, Doa, was astonishingly rude and unhelpful. During my visit, I was charged twice for my order. When I brought this issue to Doa's attention, she not only refused to address the problem but also responded with shocking disrespect. Instead of offering a simple apology for the mistake, she curtly told me, "I never say sorry to 18-year-old kids." This statement was not only inaccurate (as I am 40 years old) but also deeply insulting.
I cannot comprehend why a manager would treat any customer, let alone an adult, with such blatant disrespect. Her attitude was dismissive and condescending, which is completely unacceptable in any service industry, especially in a coffee shop where customer satisfaction should be paramount.
Moreover, the overall atmosphere of the place was chaotic. The staff seemed disorganized and indifferent, contributing to a messy and uncomfortable environment. Tables were not cleaned promptly, and the service was painfully slow. It was clear that the staff lacked proper training and management, reflecting poorly on the establishment as a whole.
This experience has left a bitter taste in my mouth, quite literally. I expected a pleasant coffee break but instead found myself dealing with unprofessionalism and rudeness. I will not be returning to Ole & Steen, and I strongly advise others to avoid this place unless they want to risk a similar experience. This coffee shop needs a serious overhaul in both its management and customer service practices. Until then, I cannot recommend it to anyone seeking a decent and respectful...
Read moreI visited early in the morning on a Sunday and the café was fairly quiet. I was given my food promptly and a tray to carry all the items which I found useful. I bought a pot of English Breakfast Tea with which I got a small cup of milk. The highlight of my visit was the strawberry tart !!
Probably owing to me not having read the description properly for the tart, I was surprised that between the top layer of strawberries and vanilla custard and bottom almond shortcrust tart-case, there was a layer of chocolate! It adds a surprising texture as this layer stops the tart from being too chewy or too soft and of course who doesn’t like chocolate?
What I recommend is having a forkful of all the layers, the vanilla custard has a perfect creamy consistency that pairs really well with the nutty, soft but firm almond shortcrust base and include the chocolate… you are in tart heaven!
What stops me from giving the food a complete 5* rating is perhaps the strawberries still somewhat defrosting and I personally do not enjoy food that is too cold. The tart still tasted fresh overall so I would still 100% recommend it!
I finished all the tea and enjoyed it both with and without milk. Overall, a very pleasant experience and I have made sure to add my card to the Ole and Steen app so next time I am prepared and can earn some loyalty points towards...
Read moreCoffee and food are always good at Ole and Steen. You cannot go wrong. With space both upstairs and downstairs, toilets, laptop sockets and wifi, the Wigmore street branch is a good space to work remotely or relax at your leisure. I spent several hours working by the window people watching and typing away with no disruptions and nobody kicking me out! The prices are good for central, and you get great service with my brother Shah (and the others). Shah was super helpful, constantly reminded me about keeping an eye on my belongings as I popped to the loo or ordered some food! Bless him! I was still able to focus with headphones on, particularly during lunch when it got quite busy BUT I guess it depends on your work style :) The only drawback was that it was a little chilly upstairs given the wet weather and the cold ait rushing in with the opening/closing of the door. BUT I could overlook this given the ease of the working...
