I’ve been a customer of patty & bun for many years and regret to announce that after today’s early evening experience I have no intention of returning. For many years I’ve sworn by the exceptional quality of their food and crowned them as the city’s best and arguably the country’s best burger. After not visiting patty & bun for a long time due to the pandemic I thought it was only appropriate to treat myself to a meal when I found myself in the west end last Tuesday. From the start to the end, the meal and service progressed for the worse. I ordered my meal, which consisted of the chicken fries, the featured don burger and a beer. A minute after ordering I made way to the restroom to and by the time I had returned my glass and can of beer were on my table. I’m not sure as to where this practice originated from, but it is to my knowledge that a quintessential part of waiting is the process of serving. If I wasn’t present your servers should not serve my drink to an unoccupied table and should instead wait for me to return to give me my drink and fill my glass as any good waiter should. Approximately a quarter of an hour later my burger and fries arrived. I was handed a bucket of fries and a burger that was wrapped in paper but received no plate or tray to eat over. Immediately I noticed something peculiar about my fries, they were missing their chicken mayo. I called over my waiter and explained to him that I had received the rosemary fries and not the chicken fries and in a way to appease the kitchen and not me he brought over a pot of roast chicken mayo in an attempt to outsmart me and not bring me a correct portion of chicken salt fries and leave me with the incorrectly served rosemary fries. The fries were terrible, they were quite limp and lacked a satisfying crunch and the flavour of them was completely ruined by the fact that they had absorbed too much oil and were too greasy to enjoy, the flavour coming from the oil was foul and not even the chicken mayo was enough to save them. Moreover, the burger too was a massive disappointment. The bun was soggy, neither of the patties had been seared and any taste or flavour coming from the burger was non existent. When I say the burger was bland, I mean it was bland to the point of me wanting to put salt and pepper on it had there been mills on my table and I never complain about salt or feel the need to add salt to cooked food. What really further hindered my ability to at least enjoyably devouring my burger was the lack of a plate/tray. I had to eat my burger over a little square of paper that had been laid out on my table and as mentioned previous my burger was soggy and I felt the entire ordeal of eating over a wet piece of paper very degrading. I do not want to fear food or grease spoiling my jeans as I eat my food, it should come as first nature to provide crockery at any eatery; I have no recollection of this happening at my previous visits and none of the other present customers had a plate or tray either. After finishing my food I immediately noticed that something was wrong as my stomach was grumbling and I didn’t feel too well. I went to the bathroom to relive myself but before I could make it to the stall I could feel myself retch and luckily managed to throw up in the sink and after my stomach heaved a couple of times I caught my breath, washed my face and returned to my table. I called my waiter over and asked for the bill and upon inspecting my bill I noticed that I was charged for chicken mayo. I told my waiter that I hadn’t ordered chicken mayo and that my chicken fries clearly stated that they came with chicken mayo and before I could ask him to remove service and explain what had just happened he had already made his way to the till to adjust my bill. When he came back to my table I told him what had happened and that I wasn’t interested in paying service for a meal that didn’t agree with me to be sick in their sink he unapologetically brought me a third bill and didn’t consult his manager or the kitchen the staff and took the payment...
Read moreLondon Bridge branch, absolutely disgusting behaviour from staff. Empty tables became available, I had already ordered my meal and asked the waitress if a table becomes free I’ll eat in. (Price of menu whether eat in/ take away is the same) - this angry little Latino manager abruptly told me he will refuse to allow me to sit down and that he will give the table away to walk ins (I myself am a walk in) fine I accepted this ridiculous attitude from staff, I then go to eat my meal, and both burgers are absolutely smothered in dripping grease, so much so that the buns have soaked and nearly fallen apart, not to mention there was more patty outside the bun than there was inside. I’ve eaten at other patty and bun restaurants plenty of times (Covent garden and soho) so I know how the burgers should taste and be presented. This was a terrible experience, I don’t often go out of my way to write reviews but people should avoid this particular branch, wasn’t an isolated event by the sounds of it as there were other customers I was standing next to having this same issue who were also unhappy with being turned away even though we are spending money on their goods. The manager on duty in particular was unnecessarily rude and should either be demoted or have some training in treating...
Read moreMy husband and I were walking around the neighborhood on a Saturday afternoon trying to figure out what to eat for lunch. We walked past Patty and Bun and saw there was no queue and took advantage of the situation because there's ALWAYS a queue.
Food: We ordered the "Ari Gold Cheeseburger" which is their traditional burger and two orders of chips. I'm looking forward to trying their other burgers. One awesome surprise was their hot sauce. It was a smokey hot sauce which was delish!
Drinks: We ordered two soft drinks.
Price: For two people we paid 25.85 GBP.
Ambiance: The place is small (31 seats) which is why there's always a queue outside. The tables/chairs are tight, but once you get seated you don't care because the smells of the burger and fries are to die for. The restaurant is lively, everyone is young and the music is good.
Service: The service was great. The host was super friendly and our server was very nice. The food comes out pretty quickly.
Would I go back? Definitely! It's on the favorites list in the neighborhood. Not sure how long I would queue for it, but if you're walking by and there's no queue definitely see it as a sign from the universe that you must...
