I've never actually tried the pizzas here, however, the pasta selection here is the best I've ever had. I took my boyfriend (now fiance) here for our first date last year and since then this has become our go-to place. We love to walk from Putney Bridge to the restaurant and sit down at the nice red tables. The space isn't great, it does feel crowded when there's other people so we tend to come closer to closing time. We are absolutely in LOVE with the penne arrabbiata, no restaurant I've ever been to sells pasta this delicious to me. Every time we come, we always end up ordering about 4 arrabbiatas (2 each) which is always seemingly a lot to whoever serves us! I've been to the New King's Road and Munster Road branches and in terms of the foods I've had so far, Putney's food tastes just that little bit better than the other locations to me despite them being the same restaurant. I used to order the calamari here however I feel like the portion size can sometimes be quite bad and I don't like the accompanying aubergine personally however the calamari itself tastes amazing and has fantastic texture - 9 times out of 10 when I ordered the calamari I'd get one piece that wasn't a ring and was a big squid shape with tentacles and I loved that! For dessert I usually get the profiteroles, they're amazing and the chocolate has quite a unique taste. I've tried the tiramisu and the brownie too, both of which are marvellous!
The service is decent, I've had both great experiences and slightly disappointing ones but never anything bad. For instance, there was once a time where the waiter was chit chatting with the table next to us for an ungodly amount of time before taking our order, misheard our order so we had to wait again for them to stop talking again to order our 2nd arrabbiatas each (originally asked for 4) and I'm not one to normally complain about a service charge but when I'm paying an extra £7-8 for someone to lately come to our table for a few seconds like twice in an hour I don't feel good. The waiter however was extremely nice so we wouldn't dream of making a fuss.
I wish I could come here all the time, the food is just too good. It can be really expensive and yet we still have had time periods where we have this twice a week! Really wish they'd give me the recipe for the arrabbiata, that sauce is to DIE for - we have tried making it several times at home and we can get the texture right but the flavour is always off.. so a massive kudos to the chef or whoever makes the sauce it's truly magical, you have us hooked!
The website and online activity of the owners/managers seem very authentic, I love how transparent they are about how they deliver the food and how it can change. Ironically, the arrabbiata is one of the things that actually arguably tastes even nicer sometimes after it's been sitting in a plastic container.. I don't know what changes exactly but sometimes we order it online purposefully for that flavour however it's delicious to dine in as well and the complimentary parmesan is wonderful!
Coming from a Portuguese family, I used to have a lot of olive bread or plain bread and the olive bread they give you at the start is beautiful!! Every time we order online, we get free ciabattas too, so grateful!
This was less of a review and more of a sincere thank you to Pappa Ciccia for being our favourite restaurant and a place of love and memories (and for delivering 4 arrabbiatas to us tonight which we have just gobbled up). Really sad to hear about the closure of the New King's Road branch as I used to always pop in on my way to or from Chelsea and Westminster hospital and that's the one I went to with my father all the time so I beg of you Pappa Ciccia, your Putney restaurant must always thrive and you mustn't change, you're fabulous the...
Read moreI have been a customer at Pappa Cicca for 8 years. Truly, it is a remarkable, one of a kind gem in Putney. Every time, without fail, It has proven to be a sanctuary for authentic Italian food. Meals are rich and heavenly, theres something for everyone on the menu, lovely vegan selection.
Every time I want to have a local delcassie, this is the only place I go. Their dedication to organically, freshly sourced ingredients is a huge plus and sets them apart.
The staff are friendly, welcoming, and bona fide—they make you feel like family. Pappa Cicca is a little piece of Italy in the heart of London, a beautiful family restaurant that radiates warmth and authenticity. I cannot recommend it...
Read moreI am shocked! This has been the best pizza place in Putney. But today our Margherita was the worst we ever had....
Usually its hand made pizza is crisp with nice dough. but today, both were covered with flatly melted cheese on the top of water-diluted tomato sauce. We could not even taste tomato! The bottom is cardboard hard, and hard to cut. I hope it is some mistake but we won't order any more. They sometimes deliver luke warm pizza but we can heat them up. But today's pizzas were .....absolutely speechless. Sorry Papa, but it is not your standard at all. Please check the quality before...
