We were excited for the new opening of Patri restaurant in Northfields. Serving up meals inspired by Indian rail journey dishes and street food classic, the menu looks very appetising. The restaurant is modern with pops of traditional Indian dining scattered throughout. The stripped walls and corrugated metal evoke a raw sense of the railways and stations and the food is beautifully plated in traditional steel thalis.

Patri offer a well stocked bar and cocktails galore. We opted for some Pornstar martinis which were strong and fruity. There are offerings of nimbu lemon soda, chai or lassi if you fancy a traditional accompaniment to your meal.

The starters menu is a “who’s who” of Indian street food star dishes. We chose the Old Delhi Pani Puri Bombs (£3.95) – crispy wheat balls to self serve by filling with chick pea, boiled potato and tangy, hot, spicy mint water. These are a “down in one” affair that promise an explosion of heat and flavour – they were excellent and a lot of fun to eat

Next we had the Chatpati Aloo Tikki Chaat (£5.95) – potato cakes on chickpeas with lemon, vinegar, onions, tomato, pomegranate and a seriously lip smacking tamarind and mint chutney. The textures and pop of heat were fabulous in this dish.

We opted for a Chef’s special thali of the day (£22.95 meat/£19.95 veg) consisting of tandoori starter, chicken curry, daal makhani, lal maas (lamb), palak paneer, rice, pickles and naan. We also had extras of monk fish curry to try.

We loved every dish but our favourite was the monk fish curry as it was so rich and meaty with a salty spiced sauce. The daal makhani (simmered for 8 hours) was gorgeous and creamy and the palak paneer had the depth of flavour of traditional homemade versions. The dishes are a delight with intense flavours. There is serious heat to some of these dishes but they are handily marked on the menu if you prefer to avoid them!

We ended with a melt in the mouth gulab jamun which is a popular traditional Indian dessert. It was juicy and sweet and the perfect end to the spicy dishes we enjoyed earlier.

Patri restaurant in Northfields is a great little spot that cooks up Indian dishes with real traditional touches. The dishes have richness and depths of flavour that evoke true Indian flavour profiles.

The staff are incredibly friendly and happy to explain the dishes and suggest items. There is a buzz about the restaurant, the music is cranked up a little later in the evening and there was a queue at the door as we left (and this was just a weekday).

They handily mark vegan/gluten free options of which there are several across the menu. If authentic fiery Indian dishes are your thing, Patri is most certainly...

I ordered a meal with just 3 items - Murgh Malai Tikka (Chicken tikka kebab), Murgh Makhani (Butter chicken curry) and Tandoori Rotis on Saturday evening. I placed the order just after 6pm via Deliveroo. On their, they said the range of time to deliver would be 40-55 minutes, which was fine for me. So when I placed the order the estimated delivery window was 18:50-19:05. 19:05 came and deliveroo moved the estimate on to 19:10-19:20 and still said the food is being prepared. I called the restaurand directly and they said they were still preparing my meal and it should take 5-10 minutes to be done. So I asked should I expect the meal in another 20 minutes, they said I should. Further 20 minutes went and deliveroo kept moving the estimate further and still said "preparing". When I called them and asked again, they said they were packing the meal up (this I later found was still a lie). They said sorry about it but there was nothign they could do as Saturday nights tend to be busy. I asked them, if they know they are busy on Saturday nights, why don't they give a more realistic estimate while palcing the order. If they said it could take between 40-90 minutes, I would be better informed about what to expect. I was shocked by the response, I was told, I should order on a Wednesday if I wanted the meal on time! The meal was actually delivered at 8pm, almost 2 hours from the time of ordering. This wasn't the worst part of the experience. Once I had eaten, I started feeling discomfort. I felt this way for nearly 2 hours and I thought it might be just gas that had built up waiting for the meal. But then the watery diarrhoea started. I was in excruciating pain in my stomach all night and the diarrhoea continued to the next day. So it is obvious they can't cope with orders at the weekend and even after 90 minutes, they've hurriedly cooked the kebabs which is what I suspect made me gave me food poisoning. I won't be surprised if when deliveroo contacts them, they will say please order on a Wednesday if you want your meal cooked properly! In these covid, times, I just hope I don't end up getting hospitalised with Salmonella due to this restaurants meal and end up catching Covid in the hospital and dying! Just stay well clear of this restaurant. I am reporting them to Ealing Food...

Tbh I have always put off trying this Restaurant because I have read the reviews and I was rather worried about irritating the Owner had I have the misfortune to dislike anything on the menu. As it happens I have been unknowingly ordering my food from Vegan Patri via Deliveroo for months now,LOL and I have had some of the best curries since my Asian traveling! The kitchen in this place has great admiration for lentils and chickpeas and it shows in the bold flavours and creamy hearty dishes I wolf down sometime twice a week 🤭 The sides are generally covered by freshly diced salsa, zingy pomegranate seeds and lime wedges and -sometimes a tad too much -tamarind. The food is always delivered piping hot and the containers are eco-friendly, including the paper bag. If I wanted to be really persnickety I would say that I am not a big fan of white rice and I wish there was an option to have either no rice or choose some cauliflower rice or brown rice instead, which is healthier and less refined than Basmati, but I don't think that everyone is as fond of grains and wholemeal as I am...😩 I have tried the kale Pakoras last week and I found them a bit too crispy for my taste, but again, this is just my personal opinion.

Overall I think Patri remains one of my top two in West Ealing for taste and authenticity although I must admit that if I couldn't take advantage of the 50% off the entire menu Deliveroo option on the App I would be ordering sparingly, specially because I have eaten my way around the menu and the food never changes.Saying that I have had three of the lentils dhaal and Channa and I am absolutely addicted to the beetroot patties, which I would be happily order instead of the Basmati rice as a side for all the Curries... but that's...

Very tasty butter chicken and excellent samosas!! Had ordered a takeaway on deliveroo. Butter chicken is definitely one of the best in London. First bite transfers you straight down the memory lane to any top North Indian restaurant or famous dhabas. Sauce gravy was excellent but the chicken not very fresh. The kheema naan okish. No wow factor. But very palatable. Garlic naan was a bit chewy, but then again was in takeaway so will try another time fresh at the restaurant. Dal makhani was a bit of disappointment. Was strangely sour. And not buttery and creamy as it should be. The steamed rice was very dry and a bit under cooked. May be given the benefit of doubt that was in a takeaway container. Now coming to the samosa. Hands down one of the best you can get anywhere. Even better than some famous places in India. Excellent taste, fresh good seasoning nice authentic texture of the dough. And to top it all very good tamarind chutney. Highly recommend for good hearty Indian flavours. Their menu selection is excellent as goes with the drinks too! Would definitely recommend to friends and family! And will be coming soon to dine in!!
