Had high hopes because of the reviews but was sorely disappointed. I grew up in Malaysia (in the sabah region) so I was looking forward to trying out a new Malaysian place. Maybe it was the time I came or the food I ordered but I kind of expected more. I know it’s meant to be a street food stall but don’t expect it to be as nice as the Malaysian ones if you’re missing home.
If you want a good, affordable Malaysian restaurant I’d recommend a place like Makan cafe or My Wok Box.
Service review:
I went on Sunday around 4pm and I ordered the chicken satay with prawn dumplings and cold Milo. I’d like to preface by saying that the girl who was serving me had her AirPods in and was on a call while taking my order. I’m still baffled by this, I thought I was seeing wrong but no she was talking using her AirPods, definitely on a call. I was going to wait until she finished but she called me forward so I just ordered. When I went to pay, I thought ‘huh, more pricey than I expected’ but chalked it up to service charge.
When I went to go collect my order, there was the prawn dumplings, chicken satay and somehow mutton rolls??I don’t even eat mutton. So I asked her why there’s mutton rolls when I asked for iced Milo and she tried saying I definitely said mutton rolls. She didn’t even say hi or bye when taking my order because she was on a call, so I highly doubt she even heard me correctly. I asked for an iced Milo (again) instead of the rolls so she asked for my buzzer and said I’d have to wait another 5 mins which was fine but no apology was given and I had to ask for her to refund me the difference in pricing, she didn’t even offer it. And even then, I didn’t get a full refund because there wasn’t enough cash in the drawer even though I paid by card.
I waited 5 mins then went to go collect my Milo when she asked for my buzzer but I had already given it to her previously when she asked for it. She tried arguing again before checking my receipt number (5) and checking the numbers on the buzzers that were already there before noticing that I had actually given my buzzer in (like she told me to the previous time I went). She also didn’t apologise for that either.
And honestly if it was busy, I’d be fine with this many issues but there was only 2 people there at a time including me. I’ve worked in retail and service jobs before and I’ve never been on a call while taking a customers order and then tried to blame the customer for the order being wrong without even apologising. I was being polite the whole time and didn’t ask for a manager as I just assumed she was new which, if she is, then she should get more training and if she isn’t, she should really get a lot more training.
Food review:
Satay- chicken was very over cooked and dry but the sauce was nice. 3/5
Prawn dumplings- again tasted like they steamed it for too long. It was too chewy when it should’ve been soft and idk what sauce was provided because it was too mild like I couldn’t even pick out what it was meant to be even when tasting it separately. 1/5
My friend ordered the beef rendang and again the beef was really tough like wayyyy too over cooked. My school lunches were more flavourful tbh 3/5
The Milo was nice but, I mean it’s Milo, it’s always nice 4/5 though as I thought I’d get a bigger size for the price.
Overall the food is not bad but I expected more for the price and from the reviews 3.5/5. The service brought my rating down.
I’d also like to add that my friends little sister ordered a Milo as well after having some of mine and when hers came, it tasted really watered down. So we asked her to ask for more Milo powder so that she’d get her moneys worth but she mentioned that the guy there had an attitude when she was asking.
I didn’t ask for a refund of my food or get it changed as I was in a hurry but I feel like I wouldn’t even have gotten my money back since she implied that it’s cash refund only when I asked for a card refund of the difference and they didn’t even have enough cash to refund me...
Read moreI recently had a wonderful meal at Peninsula, a restaurant in Boxpark Wembley that serves food from South & South east Asia. I ordered the banana leaf plate, which was packed with flavor and came with generous portions. The staff were friendly and helpful, and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious and authentic food.
Here are some of the things I loved about Peninsula:
The food was absolutely delicious. The flavors were so vibrant and complex, and the dishes were all perfectly cooked.
The portions were generous. I could have easily shared my banana leaf plate with someone else.
The staff were friendly and helpful. They were happy to answer my questions and make recommendations.

Was not really hungry so we thought just order 2 dishes and 3 of us could share but when they said their roti canai were freshly made not the frozen ones, we gave in.
We ordered banana leaves w mutton, nasi lemak beef rendang & roti canai w chicken curry. OMG the mutton curry was out of this world! Just like mom’s cooking! And a big shoutout to the beef rendang! Hit all the spots. We can taste the TLC in that beef rendang! Feel like raya ok! Enough said. Roti + chicken curry didnt disappoint as well.
We were happy campers! Keep up the good work guys. We’ll definitely be back whenever we’re London! Or a branch in Birmingham perhaps?
We totally had our epic ‘Le Festin’ moments that day.
Thanks for the such...
