Far from authentic, but I guess that’s not an issue for anyone not expecting such. I seriously doubt that any reviewers calling this authentic have actually eaten Vietnamese food (made by Vietnamese peeps) or have even been to Vietnam or Southeast Asia.
First off, menu actually shows the Vietnamese names but servers don’t really know them. When I ordered my Bún bò Huế, he squinted where I pointed and auto-corrected to “spicy beef” to confirm. Minor quibble, but I do think as a server you should at least attempt to learn the names on your menu, just as I’ve had to learn all sorts of foreign names of wines and cuisine when I was one.
On to the food. Maybe we shouldn’t have ordered the soups.
Soups: come with a Japanese (NANI???) ramen ladle which was too shallow to drink much watery broth from, and frankly kind of pretentious. Anyway I didn’t drink much since the soup was completely lacking flavour. There’s a difference between light and flavourless, and this was sadly the latter. Noodles: There were weird clumpy FLAT noodles instead of round (travesty) that I had to peel off each other, and which looked and tasted more like linguine, having none of rice noodle’s signature springiness or slight transparency. Beef: the beef came stringy (like pulled beef) instead of sliced, was kinda alright.
I ended up abandoning half the noodles and just eating the stringy beef and bean sprouts (nice and fresh) with lots of chilli oil to add some sorely...
Read moreNever again shocking 😲 😲 😲 😲 Visited pho Spitalfields today for first time Sunday 14 September lunch time and will never return. I had to deal with small unbearable asain women server that left me with a bad taste in my mouth and put me right off my take away food.
Firstly No I don't want her pressing against me and having body to body contact in a restaurant. For me I don't know her and it's not appropriate for a restaurant environment. For me serious personal space and boundaries issues.
I insisted I wait outside for my take away. At no point did she notify me that my take away was ready. My take away was left on kitchen shelf getting cold. I had to take the initiative to go in an ask her and pick up my take way.
3). When picking up my take away I asked her for a bib to eat my take away noodle soup which is standard at other pho restaurants I visited. She replied in exasperation "and some more". Why are judging me for asking for my needs meet in a restaurant? Also For me Red flag guilt tripping alert for asking for what I need. I ran for the hills and will never return.
Yeah I did not expect to be violated with my personal space and boundaries And emotionally manipulated - judged and guilt tripped for asking for what I needed in a pho restaurant whilst getting my take away pho soup noodles. Never again No I don't need and want your bread crumbs...
Read moreI am a Vietnamese Australian who has lived in London for 4yrs and Sydney for decades before that and had Vietnamese at home and restaurants my entire life. This is the worst and least authentic Vietnamese food I have had in any country. Granted, I am reviewing a Deliveroo order so did not expect it to be as fresh but the flavours are so un-Vietnamese and everything tasted like it was bathed in plain salt. The "vermicelli" dishes had literally less than 1/4 cup of vermicelli and 2 flecks of coriander and mint, most of the bowl was wilted beansprouts and there were no other herbs. The "nem nuong" pork balls were TINY and tasted of salt, nothing like the picture online or the actual dish. The lemongrass beef was like boiled beef, it wasnt chargrilled or smokey like it should be and the chicken curry was a tiny half full portion. The only relatively decent things were the fried spring rolls, albeit also very salty. Absolute utter disappointment and inedible food, so disappointing that this is how two Westerners are bringing Vietnamese cuisine to the world. Strongly recommend going elsewhere like Mien Tay or Song Que which are just down the road and where home delivery is still...
