Awful customer service, stone cold red wine, clumsy waiter service, no heating, noisy bar staff: an overall very pretentious restaurant that fails to deliver what its' menu and outside appearance attempts to portray.
As a frequent passer by, the wooden interior and it's cosy lighting had always poked my curiosity and on a busy night in the area I decided to try it.
The place is as nice on the inside as it is from the outside, however my dinner experience fell short of all its decor and menu could promise.
A most off putting sign of a restaurants' poor upkeep are its' toilets and unfortunately these could be smelled from the dining area.
The menu boasts a pricey wine list, running all the way to £300 a bottle, usually a sign of good food, good wine and good service, one might reasonably expect? Our clumsy waitress in most relaxed spirits spilt first the water and then the red wine merrily over our table. In a very bublly mood and without too much concern she loosely apologised.
In mid February the restaurant was cold and what is worse, the red wine arrived peharps out of the fridge ? stone cold.
The bar staff had no problem with loud glass bottle rattles as they emptied and carried out their bins and interrupted what could be a quiet and enjoyable evening to their clientele by loudly discussing the Oscar Pistorius case of murder in the news that week. What an atmosphere.
The steak is good and that is about all that was okay-ish about this place. If you are ever in the area, there are plenty other more well run restaurants to enjoy a good meal in. A fast food place such as Leon would offer a better service and experience...
Read moreWent into it expecting to buy a good old fashioned English breakfast. Very disappointed in what I was served. Bacon was more fat than bacon. Sausage was the herb Cumberland sausage which I hate. The beans were like Asdas own make but worse. Black putting was.....horrible. Not proper black pudding. Mushrooms tasted funny and looked as though they were days old. And the little potato things they put on the plate as well, what have they got to do with an English breakfast? The toast was not toast as we Bits like. It was those brick hard when toasted crusts, like the tiger loaf but worse. Has to be the worse English Breakfast ever. And at £10.50 not including tea, it was not worth £3.50 let alone £10.50. Would not recommend going in here for the English breakfast. Only thing I could eat were the two fried eggs. The tea was the old tea leaves tea which they put too much in and was too strong by the tome I got to pour it. Avoid the English...
Read moreTerrible! will never go again! I used to go to the English restaurants quite often and was disappointed to see they changed owners and obviously chef! First of all they I saw it was still advertised they do the Sunday roast and they don't. It was 2 of us and we ordered the steak with fries and salad. Wish I took a picture because the words can't describe.... For £25 one would expect a nice presentation and good quality but this wasn't the case. The fries were disgusting and burnt and although the waiter said they were triple cooked they were simply burnt. He offered to replace them and when he came back also those once were burnt. They tested like the oil itself was burnt and weren't fresh, probably bought frozen. They took the chips off thr bill (tot of 7.50). Also the meat didn't taste great.. So will never go again and highly recommend...
