PizzaExpress — Restaurant in London

first time at this PE location, but have had PE many times at other restaurants, this is the worst I have had. Out for pizza with a friend in Herne Hill 9.30-10.45pm on Fri 11th May 2024. after a wait of a minute or 2 to be acknowledged, we had a friendlyish welcome. From then, the waitress who served us gave minimal friendliness, no effort to create an environment where we felt welcome to eat. NO checking if everything was ok, or allergies. Ordered a pizza to share, they had to go away and get a second plate when it arrived despite it being on the order. My friend was ready for dessert before me so asked for a billionaire sundae with no chocolate, it came with the chocolate on top, the waitress slid it on to the edge of the table sideways with no words of 'here you are, enjoy' or anything of the like. We then waited to get attention of staff & asked a different waitress for an alternative ice cream because it had come with a chocolate on it, she took it away and took the order for different option. (We had both finished pizza and plates were clear at this stage.) The first waitress came back to confirm, and brought the ice cream over, again with little friendliness and walked away. She didn't check with me if I then wanted a dessert, it took over 5 minutes to catch her eye again to order some ice cream for myself, again it was placed in the middle of the table then pushed towards me, with no warmth, it was a smaller amount than my friend and I had to spit out the strawberry piece on top as it tasted mouldy. Staff were side tracked with delivery orders at times which was off-putting. When the bill came the sundae was still charged for despite the no chocolate request not being fulfilled and it being inedible by my friend. We didn't challenge it, but am bringing to your attention, the service failed these two customers on this occasion.

All in all a disappointing experience. The second waitress was more friendly and attentive, but the mood around the experience had been spoiled already by the actions of the first. The pizza...

After surgery and subjected to Hospital food, I was really feeling a nice, simple pasta dish and sides. As Pizza express is not far I thought to order via uber eats. Looking at the menu with new added items, I knew what I wanted straight away and to tantalise the taste buds, the menu photos got me.

Although I knew it wouldn't be just like. I ordered the Calamari which came in a well presented box full of burnt bits along with the burnt Calamari rings, sooo disappointed. I then went to tuck into the pesto loaded doughballs, gluten free and found flour dusted doughballs with a tub of caesar dressing?! I rarely use delivery services and thought to call the restaurant first.

The Manager answered, I explained the situation and was asked for my order number to which the Manager replied, she did not have this order number! I then simply explained the doughballs was plain with a tub of cream coloured sauce and clearly was not what I orderedand as stated on my receipt and she found it easier to question what the colour of the sauce in the tub was!? When i had already explained it was not the pesto loaded doughballs.

Got in touch with Uber and their online customer service was far more satisfactory than speaking directly to the restaurant manager.

Very frustrating as I am housebound and have limited mobility following surgery and just fancied a selection from what is usually an excellent service from a local restaurant.
