Great little place in Hammersmith its hard to find good Indian places these days that are not super oily. I went with my date here as loves Indian food, the place was decorated nicely simple and clean, we had a look at the menu we got a number of dishes so we could try a number of things the menu had a good range to suit most peoples tastes. We got a Kerelan spiced deep fried prawns, these were a starter, it was alright a little of the spices peeking through, though maybe would have been better in a sauce then again it is a starter. We also got paneer tikka these were a good portion for a starter and a chutney to dip them into, they had different kinds maybe go for the spiced on next time, not enough of the flavour coming through on the tikka ones, but still pleasant. To follow we had Dosa which is like an Indian crepe I guess but crunchy with sambar like a lentil which is spicy and the dosa is filled with potatoes inside really hit the spot and the size of it gigantic so maybe order only one. don't just eat the meat dish try the vegetarian dishes they may surprise you. For the mains we ordered a Lamb Biryani which was one of the best i have had recently, and similar to how my mum would cook at home and my favourite of the dishes i had followed by King fish curry South Indian style, which was medium spiced so the flavours were warming as it went down with the meaty fish pieces. Its worth noting they did take a little while to bring these to us, however it was all seemingly being cooked fresh presented well and tasted great so it was not an issue. The only small downside and this might be to my own tastes was the Mango lassi a little too sweet for my liking, but nice none the less. all this for £40 nicely priced, with food they will kinda wrap up for you if you wish to take away. I would definitely come back here.

A Truly Authentic Onam Sadya Experience 🌼🍽️ I recently had the pleasure of enjoying an Onam Sadya at Shilpa Restaurant and I must say—it was an absolute delight from start to finish. The meal was not just food; it was a celebration on a banana leaf! From the moment the sadya was served, you could feel the authenticity. Every item was thoughtfully prepared, served warm, and bursting with traditional Kerala flavors. The kaalan, olan, and avial were perfectly balanced, while the sambhar and rasam had that comforting, home-style touch. Special mention to the pachadi and injipuli—they brought the perfect contrast to the richness of the meal. Of course, no Onam Sadya is complete without the payasams, and Shilpa Restaurant didn’t disappoint. The parippu payasam and palada were heavenly, rich, and just the right amount of sweet to round off the feast. The service was warm and attentive, and the ambience festive yet relaxed—ideal for enjoying a traditional celebration with family and friends. If you’re looking to experience an authentic, delicious Onam Sadya that respects tradition and doesn’t cut corners, Shipa Restaurant is definitely worth a visit.

We were 2 people attended on a Sunday as we were starving for late lunch after a long walk. There wasn't anyone else except us and it made me a bit worry about serving fresh meal. Ordered one Lamb Biryani and one Mixed Kebab tray along with sides and juice drinks for two, and guess what? The Biryani was Stale, everyone could realise it by the meat quality. Tried to eat something from the Mixed Kebab tray but most of it was burned to carbon! Final bill around £57. To be honest, I think I paid this money only for two drinks as the rest was waste. To the owner(and probably the chef): throw the leftovers of Saturday! don't warm up them again for next days customers.. we pay you real money! ----- P.S. The owner responded that it is not a genuine experience as they think we haven't visited their place so I share the credit card statement which shows the exact date and amount and the restaurant name on it. Regarding the item I mentioned as the Mixed Kebab tray, the exact name in the menu is Special Mix Platter. Hope it helps!

Update: The owner could not take this review so instead alleged that I did not come to his restaurant. I did come to his restaurant, although restaurant is a generous word in this instance. The reason you cannot find my name on your records is because my google account uses a pseudonym to stop people like you creeping on me.

Original: Booked the restaurant through a well-known app as it was advertised there with a % off. Unfortunately the owner of this establishment likes the benefits of this application (increased customer base + profit) but doesn't like the reduced price of his own pre-agreed deal. 1: He tricks customers into paying for more expensive bottled beer rather than draught beer by saying the barrel has run out. 2: He shakes his head and begs you to purchase more items repeatedly, even though you have ordered a perfect and fair quantity of food/drink, resulting in a quite frankly awkward and uncomfortable environment unless you continue to order extras that you don't want. 3: He fleeces tourists by intentionally misunderstanding their orders and bringing them an insane amount of dishes (we saw this with poppadums, but the tourists called him out) at high prices. 4: Bad general attiude/demeanour towards customer from staff from the moment of entry. 5: The food actually was actually very average. We have paid less without having a deal like this in other Indian restaurants and received a much greater meal without any of the mentioned issues. If you want to partner with the aforementioned app, you can't have it both ways by offering a deal and then trying to recuperate your "lost" value by scamming people. Either quit the app entirely or offer genuine deals without hidden...

Where do I even start?! Craving South Indian food we landed up at Shilpa Hammersmith, for what we later realised was one of the worst meals of our entire lives. Small, poky little place with tables so close to each other, paint peeling off walls, dirty cutlery on the table, blaring music, the rudest owner and waiter known to mankind and the icing on the cake - a mouse scurrying past under the open window from where they serve the food! Told the grumpy waiter, he shrugged and carried on!

We'd already ordered so waited. The aapam was dry and crispy - it's meant to be soft in the middle! The dosa was cold, burnt and disgusting. The two different curries tasted exactly the same and were horrible to eat - full of chunky vegetables that shouldn't have been in there and a thick layer of oil on top - ugh.

We were anyway wary after seeing the rodent so we just ate a few bites of each dish, swallowed it down with lassi (which was warm, almost hot!?) and asked for the bill. Service took forever, wrong dishes brought to the table, curries brought 15 mins apart, dirty cutlery on table when we arrived not replaced till the mains came etc etc but there was still a service charge added. We paid and left disgusted. Horrible experience. I'll be reporting them to Food Safety Standards for a...
