First and foremost, The staff are constantly talking to one another in Portuguese, luckily I am Portuguese born and understood but nonetheless, it is completely lacking in professionalism as there are many customers who can easily feel offended by this ! Especially when you wait to finish your conversation instead of giving your immediate attention.

The only person who I believe actually maintains a good standard of professionalism is this other lady with I believe blonde hair who doesn’t speak Portuguese as she informed me she is from a different country which is even more rude to be entirely honest, constantly subjected to a foreign language but I digress.

This was my 3rd time visiting Smoko, upon hearing great things about the meat, the very first time I came just over a month ago I was happy. However the last time and today the meat was lacking in quantity, I understood the portion size to be 180g but I couldn’t grasp why they have seemingly become more tight with the portions as well as giving mostly fat which is completely unfair.

I was directly told by a lady at the food truck to go and get a refund from the other location (which is next to the Spitalfields market) in order to come back to the food truck and get a decent portion size, the lady in the market store however refused outright even when I relayed this information to her, it wasn’t long after I had bought the portion of meat with 2 sides yet she was extremely passive aggressive and rude and dismissively responded by saying ‘Oh my sister told you that? Well no I won’t give you a refund my meat is cold’ - sadly won’t be returning as that poor level of customer service alone is extremely disheartening, with hints of prejudice even but overall the most upsetting thing is that after going back there, I was given the cold shoulder, absolutely no efforts whatsoever to try to make amends, apologise, nothing.

Even though the money was quite literally going back into the franchise just at the food truck rather than the small store, to no avail.

If you want to get it though go for the food truck I guess is what I’ve been advised, same place, allegedly much better service and portions .

And to that lady please do better, it takes nothing to help customers out especially when I expressed clearly from the very start what I wanted but you were too concerned in gossiping with your colleagues in Portuguese rather than giving genuine care when assisting in taking my order and giving snark the entire time. I was nothing but respectful to you yet you treated me like a piece of gum on your shoe.

Mixed chicken and brisket in wrap. 100% beef fan but added chick just to feel healthy. Both are beautifully smoky. Brisket is super tender and melts in the mouth, and the chicken isn’t too dry. Caramelized onion is sweet and not greasy. No extra sauce is needed.

Since so many people have said good words about the flatbread, I decided to skip the side salad— and I was surprised that there is more than the sample suggests ;) The bread is no disappointment, stretchy and offers a good bite. Still tastes alright even though it cools down rapidly in this weather. The bottom half is too oily so I didn’t eat it.
