As a Kosher only eater, I find that I'm regularly disappointed by the quality of food in the UK, in particular, when it comes to all things "meat". Eating out in Paris, New York or Tel Aviv, you experience variety and varying quality, which means you can always find something you desire how ever your cravings guide you. The UK kosher meat cuisine has always disappointed me with its monotonous repetition of perpetual "sameness", choosing a restaurant is almost less about the food and more about the convenience of location or (un)fairness in pricing. The competition between these restaurants has never been with regards to food quality, or so I suspect having watched and tasted over the years, this is no good for the consumer (and in my opinion not for the vendor either).
Finally, we have some healthy competition in the form of SOYO Diner. A restaurant whose food is so good that I am willing to order pretty much anything on the menu with almost 100% guarantee of no buyer's remorse. I had heard some mixed reviews going in for the first time, maybe that set me up for an even greater impression, but so far, I have been continually amazed by SOYO Diner.
If the quality and variety of the food wasn't already spectacular, the customer service has been above and beyond, a factor hugely lacking in similar Kosher restaurants. Each time I step in the shop, I am greeted and made to feel valued, regardless of how bustling the place is. The food portions are generous and quite honestly fairly priced considering how much bang you get for your buck.
As for recommendations, I have three. If you're a schnitzel person, go for the ultimate schnitzel club sandwich, the ratio of schnitzel to vegetables is incredibly well balanced, coupled between two thick plump granary bread slices Can't decide between a burger or a salad? Get both! Pick a salad and alongside order a "Rock N Roll" 3 mini burgers perfectly crafted to whet your appetite I have been assured by a, shall we say, far more adventurous friend, whose penchant for non-kosher meat and cheese is staggering, that the Double Cheesy Burger is the closest Kosher alternative in taste to real cheese on a burger. Needless to say, he was left both dumbfounded and in awe
I can't recommend SOYO Diner enough, it's about time we had something good to eat....
Read moreHonestly i only went here cause the soyo brand. I have been a loyal customer of Soyo for years. This restaurant was possibly the worst ive been in a long time in every possible way.
Huge delay in starter arriving (apology given)
The wrong starter arrived (waitress said no problem a new one as you ordered will come. It didnt but a manager said ill organise something sweet at end)
The wrong main arrived (was taken back the promise a new main wont take long as one main now was ready to it)
The main now arrived and was too salty to eat, we was up stairs and only customers on this floor we just could not get service.
Finally when waitress came we said take the food and we explained the food was bad. Was possibly the worst. The manager came apologised and again offered something sweet.
Nothing was taken off the menu. £60.00 or 2 people for possibly the worst meal. I thought at least out of courtesy one salty main would of been taken off.
Only positive i would say they did everything with a smile. Waitress said we love feed back. But fact the starters weren't replaced nor the second main was not taken off. For a high priced restaurant its not acceptable. I will never go back to Soyo dinner again. Soyo it self i may consider although its not as good as it once was. But i would still recommend it. Especially the...
Read moreI really feel bad for the staff, they are put in an embarrassing position when underpar, overcooked and frankly unedible food is served to unhappy customers waiting over 60 minutes, half the items ordered were forgotten by overworked staff, burgers dry like anything, tuna sashimi did not taste or smell fresh, when my friend complained that his burger was burnt and egg was cold they took it back and brought him a new burger patty and egg but with the same bun with a bite mark in it.
Soufflé was chocolate cake.
On a positive note the Peroni was cold and refreshing.
The old soyo diner was so much better, why on earth would they change the menu.
Chef should take this review to heart as his food is not at the level to serve to customers.
Regards,
Really disappointed customers that will not be back.
P.S we knew people on another table and they were not impressed by their...
