A few work colleagues and I would go there often for Nasi Goreng as it is really good and supposedly halal, but recently we have discovered that it is not halal.
Someone who would definitely know, told one of my colleagues it is not halal which made us suspicious so we called them and a member of staff, I think Chinese said they cook everything in the same wok then changed his mind to say they don't, he sounded quite fishy. So we gave them the benefit of doubt and went there and let’s just say we asked someone else who would know if they cooked the halal meat separately from non halal meat, which would mean pork, and this person’s response was; they say they do but they don't.
This was enough for us to believe this place is not suitable for a halal diet. Whether they have a halal certificate or not is pointless, who knows maybe they do buy halal meat, but if the chefs don’t cook using separate woks and spoons, then it isn't halal. This would be the case for all their food.
It's a shame as we all love their Nasi Goreng, portion size and price. Who knows, maybe it tasted so good because it was always mixed with pork fat lol! Not that I eat pork but it's supposed to taste awesome!
In my opinion, they probably do buy halal meat; I think it’s probably lazy chefs and/or chefs who just don’t care. This can obviously be changed.
But they seriously need to stop misleading their customers, a lot of...
Read moreThis is my 1st time ordering from them. I really wish they had details of what the ingredients of each dish was so one could have an idea. I ordered a 'king prawn with seasonal vegetables' and my boyfriend had the 'sweet and sour pork', both comes with a choice of: egg rice, boiled rice, noodles, ho fun OR vermicelli. We had them with egg rice. Our order was 10 pounds 10 pence, with a 1 pound delivery charge but as they don't usually deliver to the area where we stay, they charged an extra pound for delivery.
I was happy that they gave me so many prawns (I love prawns), they were fresh. I thought mine would be a fried rice sort of thing but I suppose since it wasn't under the 'fried rice' section, it was wrong of me to assume that. The 'prawn and seasonal vegetables' was a thick gravy on top of the egg rice. Taste-wise, it was alright untill 2/3 of the way through, I realized it was a bit too -I would classify it as- salty for my liking, maybe too much MSG?
My boyfriend's sweet and sour pork seemed to have quite a lot of flour covering the pork, which I've never liked. I'd prefer more pork, less flour, of course. Overall, my boyfriend thought the dish was average.
We were craving for Chinese food. I would say Speedy Noodle satisfied it...
Read moreRevisited Speedy Noodles after many years, hoping for a nostalgic experience, but unfortunately, it was a disappointment. The restaurant was completely empty, and the interior felt neglected — old, damaged furniture and a generally tired atmosphere. We were the only two diners, which already felt odd, but the food soon gave a possible explanation.
The quality was well below expectations. The Tom Kha Gai lacked enough coconut milk, and the chicken tasted old. The Spicy Ring Calamari was overly chewy and clearly not fresh. Even the Siam Beef, which used to be a favorite, was underwhelming — very little beef and poorly cooked rice that just didn’t taste right.
To make matters worse, the pricing is unclear. There are extra charges hidden in small print, which could easily catch diners off guard. And surprisingly, they only accept cash, which is highly inconvenient in this day and age.
With so many other restaurants in the area offering better quality and service, Speedy Noodles really needs to step up its game. If things don’t improve, I wouldn’t be surprised to see...
