London Pub MapLondon Pub Map
🚇 Euston Square 🍺 £6.20 Heineken A Pub Oasis in Central London. Located in a quiet square sandwiched between Hampstead Road and Euston Road is The Square Tavern. The nearest Tube is Euston Square which is just around the corner. Originally called The Tom Tiddler’s Tavern, this Estate looking pub was built in 1982. This location was once full of four story Georgian houses and was the scene of The Battle of Tolmers Square. In the 1970’s activists occupied Tolmers Square after the council attempted to evict local residents and sell the land off to property developers. The developers wanted to build a 22 story office block and started buying land around the area. The houses were eventually demolished but the activists did manage to persuade Camden council to build council housing and a pub instead of the proposed office block. This is a good size one bar pub that is set out in an ‘L’ shape. The decor is traditional but due to the architectural nature of the pub, you do feel that you are in a 80’s built boozer. The servery is centrally located and is illuminated by large tasseled lamp shades. To the left of the servery is a low level seating area that has a beautiful panelled wall with an ornate clock as its centrepiece. To the right of the servery are a number of poser tables and banquette seating. Around the walls are a photos and prints depicting the sites and sounds of London plus a couple of screens that show live sport. At the front of the pub is a leafy terrace for the warmer months. The beer selection was full of familiar favourites and included one cask ale. I decided on a Heineken, my pint was excellent and was served in a unique Heineken glass, price point was a smidge above average. The food menu offers traditional pub fayre plus Mediterranean style dishes too, Fish & Chips costs £16.50. I arrived just after 6.30pm on a warm Thursday evening in September. The pub was packed to the gunnels with afterwork drinkers enjoying a Thursday is the new Friday tipple. There was a fantastic upbeat buzz about the pub which was set to a superb soul and rare groove soundtrack. The service was spot on, even though the pub was busy the staff were very friendly and had it all under control. Visiting @squaretaverneuston was an enjoyable pub experience all round. The location was great, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Euston Road. The beer selection will please many, there is also a decent food menu to choose from. The friendly service tells you this is a well run pub and the environment was easy to settle into. A nice surprise this one, well worth a visit if you’re in the area. ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 28.09.23

What a great find! Just off the busy Euston Rd in Tolmer Square is this rather unassuming pub, but on a rainy Friday/Halloween night in this part of London (largely unfamiliar to me) it was just what we needed. Busy but a couple of tables still free and serving food. Really friendly team behind the bar who gave us some great advice on menu/food choices. And the food was top notch, nothing overly fancy but really good quality, decent portions and cooked perfectly - best Chicken Schnitzel I've had since Berlin. Nice buzz around the place, like a typical "local" (but in Central London!), decent enough choice of beers (I'm a lager drinker so... but draught Moretti and bottled Camden Hells were great options for me, lot's of Guinness being sold from what I could see). The pub looks like it's had a bit of a refresh lately, so the fixtures and fittings are all in decent order. Nothing fancy here, just good, honest food and beer in a very decent environment and atmosphere at a very reasonable price. What's not to like!

Congratulations to the square tavern on losing 7 of your regular customers today. I came here for lunch with a few of my colleagues this afternoon. One of us paid £11 for leek soup and a cheese and chutney sandwich. After waiting 50 minutes, we had to ask staff how much longer the wait would be. By the time the order was brought to my table the soup was cold. The sandwich left a lot to be desired… half a slice of cheddar on store bought bread, no onion or chutney. After complaining to the staff about the quality of the food, we were shouted at for being rude, no apology was given and no offer to replace the meal. To add insult to injury, a staff member followed us outside and berated us again for acting ‘offensively’. Sir… it’s OFFENSIVE that you are charging £11.50 for this…. P.S. we noticed the new 5* review that popped up today, how coincidental eh?

If I could give 0 stars I would. We came after work for a beer with colleagues as we work nextdoor. Colleagues came and went and someone ordered chips for the table. A few minutes later the waiter also bought us 2 pizzas. We were approximately 7/8 people and we assumed that someone in our group had ordered the pizza for the table. (We often go out after work and someone will just buy some pizzas or chips for the table so nobody thought much of it.)

A minute later a waiter comes out and tells us that we didn’t order the pizza it was for someone else. We realized our mistake so we apologized and immediately paid for the pizzas without any fuss. It was genuinely an honest mistake on our part (and the waitress gave it to the wrong table). These things can happen.

About an hour later (no exaggeration).. the bouncer comes over and asks us to leave. He said “something about a pizza”.

We were totally shocked. As far as we were concerned we had made an honest mistake and we paid immediately and apologized. Also so much time had passed it made no sense that they would now ask us to leave when the matter was finished.

We asked to talk to the manager who came over to our table with a horrible attitude and accused us of knowingly stealing another customers pizza which is just a ridiculous accusation. We tried to calmly reason with the manager to say we work next door and we come regularly and it was a genuine mistake that we paid for but he had no interest in listening and he said “I’m the manager and I want you to leave”. He really had no grounds to kick us out and we were genuinely taken aback by this poor attitude to paying customers.

It offended me so much that I’m leaving this review. I don’t know what got them so worked up about these pizzas. We were just trying to have a nice afternoon and a genuine mistake led to such an uncomfortable situation for my colleagues and I who would never dream of intentionally stealing pizza from a pub we regularly attend.

The manager should be ashamed of himself and I recommend that people don’t attend this pub because the staff are rude and don’t even know how to wait on 4 tables that they...

Unfortunately we were really let down in our experience here. We previously have been coming here as a group for around 9 months once a week after work for drinks and so when we had a longer lunch break decided to see if we could eat here. We asked coming in if the kitchen was open and were told yes so 7 people ordered food, 5 sandwiches and 2 soup and sandwich. The two sandwiches took 45 minutes to arrive and the 5 soup and sandwiches took an hour to arrive and only after we went and enquired. We had no apologies for the time taken given we were the only table in use when we arrived and the first orders placed so it was not a case of being busy. The sandwiches when arrived were then missing ingredients that were on the menu. A member of the party complained to the staff and was frustrated at the time but did not shout or say anything abusive about the staff and in fact my colleague did apologise if they came across badly and stated that the staff seemed lovely but the experience was not good. There were no apologies given, excuses made about a new menu but no recognition that we had paid for things that we did not get but we were content leaving it at that and finished our food. 10 minutes later when we left the manager followed us out and berated us for complaining saying the tone was not appropriate (again there was no abuse towards staff no shouting or name calling there was frustration) and again took no responsibility for the frustration and disappointment we felt. Unfortunately we will not be going back now and I believe while management should be protecting and standing up for their staff, when the service is this poor they should be apologising and taking responsibility not blaming it on poor excuses and acting very unempathetic towards the poor experience and wasted money your customers have spent. The whole situation would’ve been moved past if better handled by management but instead has left a bad taste in...
