My daughter and I were shopping in Knightsbridge today and I chose to visit Tattersalls Tavern based on some research of Greene King pubs in the area. The menu looked great and I thought it was all very reasonably priced.
We ordered the Chicken Wings (tossed in BBQ sauce) to share, my daughter ordered the Grilled Cheese Toastie and I ordered the Philly Steak Toastie. And a bowl of skinny fries.
We were starving and we were really looking forward to our meal. When our Chicken Wings came, they weren't tossed in the BBQ sauce. It was on the side. My daughter bit into one of the wings and declared that it tasted 'horrible'. She said it tasted of nothing at all. In fact, she said it looked 'boiled as well as fried'. I also tasted a wing and it was awful.
But, it was the smell of them that got me more than anything. The bowl of chicken smelled of very old cooking oil. It was so pungent that it made me feel physically sick and I had to ask that it be taken away. But! We still had the fries, which we ate until we received our Toasties.
I'm afraid that my Philly Steak Toastie was awful. Every time I bit into it, I'd come up against a globule of fat, which I had to spit into a napkin. And I could taste the old cooking oil, which I wrote about earlier. The same can be said of my daughter's Grilled Cheese Toastie regarding the taste of the old cooking oil. We couldn't eat them.
To have had such a poor dining experience in such a prestigious area disappointed us no end. We both concluded that neither of us had ever had an experience like it. I paid over £35 for meals we couldn't eat.
All that being said, the staff could not have been more sympathetic. They offered us free coffees and soft drinks and more fries and were very courteous to us throughout. The one star is for them.
I'd like to assure you that this is a fair and honest review. I don't usually write negative reviews on restaurant meals, because everyone has off days, but I just cannot allow this gastronomic disaster to pass without comment.
I'm sorry Tattershall's, but you and Greene King establishments have...
Read moreWe travel down to London a few times a year and have been coming here since 2018.
We booked in advance a table for 21 November. Up until now we have always liked this place, but our last visit and disappointment has made us look elsewhere for a place to eat out at.
I ordered fish & chips, and bread and butter. My fish & chips came but no bread & butter. I had to ask three times (when I could see some staff) for my bread & butter. Also, the chips were luke warm and the fish was thin and not chunky in anyway and not up to the standard of the thick, plump and delicious fish I had there on other occasions. I got some mushy peas served up in a metal dish and they were the driest mushy peas I have ever tasted. My girlfriend ordered the burger and chips and she informed me that her burger was full of gristle and had no seasoning and due to this was extremely bland and her chips/fries were also luke warm. To get one meal like this is not on, but to get two meals like this is totally unacceptable.
I would have complained but it had been a very long day as we had travelled all the way down from Cumbria and all we wanted was something to eat before returning to our hotel.
From past experiences of this place, the quality of the food has took a massive downward dive in the quality, and due to this we will not be returning. I am not willing to pay the price and be served sub standard food that is not worth anywhere near the...
Read moreThe food was terrible. I ordered a steak and ale pie with chunky chips. I couldn’t even finish the pie, as most of the “meat” was just fat. I only found one genuinely edible piece of meat in the entire pie, which was worth more than 15 quid. The pastry was just okay, but the flavour of the gravy was honestly the only tasty part of the meal. It was hard to enjoy the gravy, however, as every single piece of meat was fatty and horrible. One of the pieces wasn’t fatty. But tasted disgusting, like it was off. Had to spit so much out. The chips are clearly just the same as Wetherspoons, so nothing special, and were quite cold.
I also ordered the “crispy” smashed potatoes, which were neither crispy, nor smashed. For 7 quid, I received 4 small new potatoes with a small amount of Parmesan on top. Tasty, but the texture was slimy and soft. Not worth it.
My girlfriend ordered the cod sandwich, which arrived cold and had very little fish inside. We both found it one of the worst restaurants we have ever been to.
Not even to mention the fact that we had to wait for 45 minutes before our food came, which in fairness, was explained to us when we ordered, but to wait as long as we did, and receive cold, fatty, poor quality food, which left me still hungry, is very...
