The Holy Relics of Saint Seraphim of Sarov are here... do you understand how gracious this place is?! This is a beautiful house of prayer, with many Holy Relics and beautiful Icons.
Having read through the reviews, I can only say that our words are spirits and so are our thoughts. The candle desk is not at fault for the views of anyone who is publicly negative; in fact, neither are those people but the thoughts that frustrate them and that they act on.
The candle desk is a large self-service candle display. There are coin holes and written guidance displays. It is a large self-service candle display. No one is counting your money.
The blessed bread is also self-service and there is no price set on it. There is a donation box and a £1 is recommended, but in the box you see £5 notes because people are generous.
People are very polite, and their politeness makes them stumble as they are used to counter service. But we are in the Church, not worldly, and if you imagine that you buy blessed bread, you are a bit wrong. Just take what you need and keep your donation between you and God. Of course the sisters refuse to count your donation before you put it into the box. Of course. You do not understand how you come across to them, and if they get upset I am not surprised, perhaps ask for forgiveness. It is bad taste to ask others to count your donation for you before you put it into the donations box.
The Church collects donations for restorations, for daily services and for the poor. If you ask the person in charge of collecting these donations about how to make a donation and what for, she will tell you. I am sorry, but that is her job and you ask her about how to make donations. How then, do some come in the public to insult the person they just asked for information on donations? No one is asking anyone for any money, but people want to give to the Church for these reasons. I am sorry that some give in to irrelevant thoughts that perplexe them and then come here to write negatively, making a mud of themselves. Everyone knows that the Church has no fault, who are they trying to convince, and is the Spirit of God in their words and frustrations? A Christian goes to Confession when a thought troubles them, and not in the public to shame. But the Church has visitors from all faiths and not all comments are representative...
Read moreThe Cathedral of the Dormition of the Mother of God and All Saints, also known as The Russian Orthodox Cathedral, is one of the main places of Orthodox worship in London.
This church is Ennismore Gardens was formerly the Anglican parish church of All Saints, a daughter church of St Margaret's, Westminster. St Margaret can still be seen in the mural biblical scenes on the upper parts of the walls of the nave.
The change to Orthodoxy came in 1956 when the parish moved from St Philip's Church in Buckingham Palace Road to this church.
Built in 1849 by Lewis Vulliamy, it is modelled on the eleventh century basilica of San Zeno Maggiore in Verona and the west front was rebuilt in 1892 by Harrison Townsend. Particularly noteworthy is the decoration above the tall arches executed by Heywood Sumner in sgraffito, a technique in which a superficial layer of plaster is cut away to reveal underlying colors.
Among the religious iconography - a figure of Christ on the Cross, with the four evangelists, and six circular designs indicating the six days of Creation - are the icon screen doors in front of the altar, rescued from the chapel of the Russian embassy in London after the...
