Don't let the nondescript name and plain exterior fool you. Tetote Factory is a Japanese bakery in South Ealing with a stellar reputation and the most welcoming and enthusiastic staff I have ever encountered. It's a joy to visit the bakery from start to finish, and they are a shining example of how retail should be done.
On offer are plenty of options, both savoury and sweet. Most are staple Japanese recipes, with a couple of Japanese / English hybrid options. My particular favourites are the curry buns, the hot dog buns, the egg tarts (of all varieties) and the green tea buns (trust me). They also bake fresh bread and sweet buns by the bagful, both of which are also top quality.
If I worked locally instead of just living locally, I'd probably get lunch here every day. Unfortunately, I have to limit my visits to the weekends.
Get there early in the morning for the freshest food and the widest selection - they sell out very quickly through the morning so if you're late then the favourites will already be gone!
Tetote Factory alone is worth a visit to South Ealing, and worth the walk off the broadway if you're...
Read moreIf I recall correctly, it used to be a lot better ( I visited like 6 years ago). This time wasn’t the best.
The curry pan was pretty dry and the filling was so bland. The outside wasn’t crispy or anything but greasy, which was so disappointing.
I didn’t like the mushroom bread either as it really didn’t taste like anything. The topping was absolutely minimal and again the bread was dry. It felt like they came up with this mushroom bread just for the sake of ticking off vegetarian options, I don’t think it was well thought out.
The melon pan was the best out of these, but again the cookie outer layer was pretty thin and it was mostly this dry-ish bread.
Honestly, the quality isn’t there and the bread was made to be “cost effective” throughout but I guess it works in UK for the uniqueness of it. I wouldn’t go back as I didn’t like any of the...
Read moreIt's impossible to overstate the appeal and deliciousness of the simple, authentic, freshly-baked buns, bread and pastries at this tiny Japanese-run shop. You can see the authentic Japanese baker himself toiling away in the bakery just behind the counter. Everything is served and sold with equally authentic and elegant Japanese charm and service. Many favourites such as the sourdough baguette and the raison walnut buns sell out very fast but you can reserve anything in advance to save a wasted trip if you're unlucky enough not to live nearby. There are always interesting things to try - green tea cake, melon buns, bacon epi, potato salad pastry, mouthwatering soft sliced walnut or sesame bread .... I can't go on! I need to pop out and buy something from...
