DO NOT go there if you are Asian looking and eating alone; discriminating staff to say the least. I entered on a Saturday and was told there was no table seats; when I informed that I was happy to sit on the chairs by the bar counter I was told that the bar area was all booked later on.
Ended up at the table right next to the toilets and was ignored for at least 10 minutes. When I finally got to order, I ordered a starter and a main with a glass of white.
Food was nice and tasty - can not fault it at all. But the white, came half way of the starter time, tasted sour, I wanted to raise the issue but no one came by my table until I finished halfway through the main (had to take the food away as it was a big portion of main as I had starter). When I asked for the bill, I finally got to inform that I did not like the other one and would like to return the drink.
The bartender came back with another glass of white for which she claimed to be a new bottle that she had just opened; still tasted sour but I was ready to go and I ended up agreeing to pay that large glass in full as I really wanted to leave. Quite appealing services I am afraid. One would not see such thing in any restaurant in the City area - they would come back with a small sample glass and if it was really an issue of personal taste one would not get charged at all.
Alternatively if they really want people to pay without liking the drink, they would bring a new bottle and open in front of the complainant such that the person can not have anything further to complain.
None of these happened - simple as that I wanted to return the drink for quite a while, no one bothered to check on me; when I was ready to go someone finally gave a damn that I didn’t like my drink (which evidently was too late).
Fine food, appalling service - will not go back again. Again - DO NOT go there if you have Asian facial...
Read moreWhat to say. This a pub selling thai grub from a tiny kitchen just on side of the seating area. . I indeed a platter and everything was fried: from the chicken satay, chicken wings, prawn and chicken sesame toast (unfortunately under cooked as the prawn cooks faster), prawn tempura, corn fritters in a batter that came out a very unappealing dark brown brown (more batter than corn) and spring rolls. All of it lacked taste and flavour due to lack of even basic salt let alone spuces. The pad thai was a bit of a greasy mess. The vegetable soup on the other hand was delicious. So this can't be classed as a restaurant. The owners seriously need to review the class of chef and whether the barn like pub needs a serious overhaul. Also consider if a vegetarian would find it appropriate to be served fried food in the same oil as the chicken and prawn ones. It certainly wasn't worth £55 as neither of us had a main. The service was good the elderly waiter was prompt efficient and attentive. It is disabled accessible but parking here is an abomination. Greenwich Council has done nothing to help the area thrive with any decent parking. The road had 8ft wide cycle lane when it could have had a pay and display. My friend had to park 500 yards to find a spot even with my blue badge. I would avoid as the area is full of council estate property double yellow lined and car...
Read moreWhen? Sunday lunch time
Busy? We're the first customers of the day. By the time we left at 1400 it was half full.
Food? Good. Lived in Thailand so know decent Thai food. Had Thai beef salad (that could have been hotter - but I suspect that can be spiced up upon request) and Pad Thai - both dishes were good thanks to the Thai staff in the kitchen.
Beer? Limited but do have Singa on tap 👍
Service? Prompt. Efficient. Good.
Kid friendly? Yes. Our 1yr out was quite content in one of the many high chairs and enjoyed walking about post lunch.
Décor? Fine. Recent rebranded from a trash heap called the dutchess. If anything they're going to struggle with space but a good half dozen tables for two and a few more for bigger groups.
Summary? Solid 8/10. Would probably have scored higher for a more authentic beef salad (heaps of beef btw) but that's probably due to my experiences in Thailand.
Overall another great addition to the Maze Hill local restaurants... We've needed a Thai now we finally have two in one month (another has opened up a bit closer to Greenwich). We'll be back without question.
Note: they advertise sky sports... Bit odd really but maybe the evening crowd is different from the midday crowd... No issue I don't think and eventually I suspect they'll realise that the food is enough of a draw card to also have sports on offer...
