As someone who has had some fantastic breakfasts and lunch here in the past, and also someone who has always complemented who lovely the food was on payment I was very disappointed on how terrible my breakfast has been on the last two visits. My last breakfast ordered (a week earlier) I had scrambled eggs on toast with salmon and an Oat latte. I also had to go to the till to order as I was patiently waiting for 15 mins. Nobody took my order. On arrival the oat latte was delicious, but the scrambled eggs were cooked in the microwave. The congealed scrambled (microwave) eggs sat on top of 2 slices of dry brown toast that was stacked on top of each other which looked very strange. The eggs needed to be cut with a knife as it was all congealed. I had to ask the waitress for some butter for the toast as none arrived. I left most of the breakfast as it was so dry and bland. The side salad was nice but did nothing to mask how bland the food was. I complained to the lady on the till and she just apologised and said they’re very busy today. There was no offer of reducing the bill at all.
Todays visit I sat down with my partner. It was around 10.15am and the restaurant was very quiet. I ordered oat latte and Eggs Florentine & Spinach (£10.90 for the food). We were waiting for 25 mins before the food came out. On arrival again I was given 2 pieces of dry wholemeal toast that sat on top of each other with 2 poached eggs with spinach & Hollandaise sauce. I was surprised to see eggs Florentine served on toast. Surely the normal way to serve is on muffins. Or at least give the customer the choice of bread. I cut into the eggs and they were very snotty and cold. The toast on examination was only cooked on one side. I was so hungry I ate one slice of this bread/toast with the whites of the eggs. I left most of the rest. I called the waitress over and told her the food was cold and the eggs were snotty and the toast was undercooked. I also asked why it was not served on muffins. She looked confused with this too. Although she never asked me on taking my order how I liked my toast. She again apologised. I asked if she could reduce the bill. My partner noticed the staff discussing this and laughing as they were looking over at us. The waitress came over with the payment machine and said they were happy to knock 15% off which really was not enough given how terrible the food was. But not to cause a scene I paid and left.
My review was going to be 3 out of 5 as I have had some lovely food here in the past, but the level of service today, and not reducing the bill to a more acceptable resolution determined my...
Read moreSo I was in the area for a week and quite frankly enjoyed one of the nicest coffees around London, something I did share with the owner. Therefore thought to myself that this was going to be my breakfast spot for the next five days and beyond. Turned up on day 2 upon their opening time, again ordered and enjoyed my latte but on this occasion wasn’t exactly inspired by the very grumpy brunette lady with the glasses (seemed part of the ownership) that was throwing the stale croissants and muffins from the fridge into the display with her bare hands to be sold to humans that were going to give her their money of course, when they should of been thrown out the night before. Funny enough, I chose to go back on day three…the coffee effect you see, but on this occasion stayed away from the section that was abused the days before. Like previous mornings, I ordered my latte and chose to have the backup biscuits in my bag instead of anything from the section that I would of chosen as the muffin I had on my second morning was as bad as the pretzel-like pastry filled with a sample of chocolate on day one. On thé next morning I came through again and said to the owner “a nice latte please,” being half asleep (I accept), he heard “an iced latte please,” which I discovered just as that same lady went to serve me with it…my dear lord…the look on her face…if she could of killed the owner that made the mistake and have me splattered with the blood, she dam well would! Of course…there was no day five in this place! Oh, minor, but well worth mentioning that after that mistake, I knew I had been charged for an iced coffee which was more expensive that the latte, so chose to politely ask that owner “do I owe you a difference,” and instead of him saying, no, I actually owe you a difference, he said…”no, you’re good. Although I’ll now be doing visits in the area quite often, never will they see my money again, firstly because I don’t care if they are not a morning person, secondly because they re-sell food that only have a daily lifespan and thirdly because somebody told this owner that he is clever than everyone else, can therefore overcharge customers and then pretend it’s all good because he is simply too...
Read moreUPDATED REVIEW: I never do follow up reviews, but today I just had to. This is one of my favourite places for breakfast and coffee on a weekend. However, the last two times I've visited it has been a disappointment. I brought my cousin here for breakfast - raving about the place. The Welsh Rarebit she ordered was, however, a complete disaster. It was overcooked to the point of bitterness. It should not have left the kitchen like that in the first place. I could compare it with another when I visited today. This time it looked really good. So, it's not the recipe, it's the quality of food leaving the kitchen. Unfortunately I'm generalising based on this one event, but that's normally the first and only impression a person gets. Today I ordered a breakfast and coffee to the amount of about £10 (for which I paid by card). As I usually do, I took a second coffee later with the surprising announcement that £5 is the minimum for card payments. What!? So if I had wanted a coffee only, I would need to pay cash. Who carries cash these days? Imagine Starbucks or Costa had to tell me "minimum £5 card payment" for each time I wanted to grab a latte... The only reason I am not giving a 2-star rating at this point, is because of the manager paying for the coffee on my behalf (the owners need to thank him for this). Card transaction fees are expensive, I know. But negotiate this with your paypoint merchant or the bank - not your clientele. Unfortunately I won't take the effort to travel across from West Greenwich to visit A&C again. Pity.
INITIAL REVIEW: Really great place to grab a coffee and a sandwich, but they also have scrumptious breakfasts and many other goodies. All plates are served with tasty corn chips and guacamole. What makes it really stand out is the playroom for children. Parents will love this place. Staff are friendly and helpful. Worth a...
