🚇 Old Street 🍺 £7.30 Asahi ❤️ A calm oasis in EC1. . The Artillery Arms is a located on the outskirts of London's financial district. Opposite the pub is Bunhill fields burial ground, this is the final resting of Daniel Defoe, author of Robinson Crusoe, Puritan John Bunyan and William Blake, a luminary, poet, painter, printmaker and a bit of a nutter. . This pub was built in 1850’s and was formerly known as The Blue Anchor. This pub is named after the nearby headquarters of the Honourable Artillery Company whose barracks have sat on this minor hilltop since the 17th century. . This pub has a definite Victorian feel with its dark woody interior, stained glass, drinking shelves and traditional island servery. The main bar is small but perfectly formed, upstairs is another room called The Barracks which is used for functions and events. . The beer selection was excellent and included a couple of craft brews and five cask ales. I decided on a pint of Asahi, my pint was great and price point was high. The food offering is hearty pies and bar snacks to accompany your drinks. . I visited on Bank Holiday Monday back in May. I arrived late afternoon and the pub was calm, relaxed with a nice crowd in attendance. There were a few locals sat on stools around the bar and a younger crowd gathered outside. The service was good, there were a couple of nice chaps working the bar chatting to the locals. This pub hosts pub quizzes every Sunday and also Comedy nights upstairs throughout the month. . @theartilleryarms is one of those pubs that immediately makes you feel welcome and at ease. This Fullers pub is well worth a visit to soak up the Victorian ambience and the historic location opposite Bunhill Fields burial ground. . ℹ️ Info correct on...
Read moreWe went over the weekend and Steph was really welcoming and made a great effort to host us. She really goes above and beyond but it's a shame the Landlord/ manager of the pub was so rude- stomping in shouting and screaming is no way to confront customers especially when we've made the effort to come to this specific pub and give a full night's worth of business in these COVID times. Seems like that manager lady needs some training as her behaviour and attitude is no way to treat customers under any circumstances- attitudes like hers easily spoilt a decent pub's name and brand. Steph you deserve a promotion!! Keep up the good work!!
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS AFTER RESPONSE: Getting the same copy and paste message as another review from Amelie is so disappointing. Make some effort, train your "off duty manager" ...

As part of the Fullers stable you can never go expect the prices to be anything other than expensive. It’s opposite a wonderful old tree covered church yard and it is very pleasant to stand outside.
Only downside was the staff who were a bit hostile and had a bit of attitude about them. If I’m paying over the odds for a pint I’d at least like a thank you when paying! When pubs like this take custom for granted and offer nothing by the way of service or politeness then they can’t complain when their earnings are down. They’d do well to take some staff on that care about what they do and are engaging with their customers.
With a 3/5 I’m being generous because of the setting and heritage...
