šĀ Old Street šŗĀ Ā£6.50 Pravha
The Angel is located just south of Old Street roundabout close to Bunhill Fields. The nearest Tube is Old Street, itās a two minute walk to get here.
This pub was established in 1798, the pub you see today dates from the mid 19th century. The area around Old Street roundabout has significantly changed is recent times. The huge modern buildings are occupied by startup Tech Companies dubbing the area āSilicone Roundaboutā.
This is a good size pub that is set out over two floors. The decor is in the main traditional with a few contemporary touches. The main bar is on the ground floor and has a semi-circular servery. Other notable features include etched mirrors, tall black and white photos of Angel statues and plenty of comfy seating. Upstairs is a comfortable dining area and function room which has its own servery. The secluded area with the faux church windows and atrium was a nice touch.
The beer line up is solid and offers four cask ales, four craft options plus familiar mainstays. I decided on a pint of Pravha, my pint hit the spot, price was above average. The food menu is classic pub grub, Fish & Chips costs £17.00.
I arrived around 2pm on a mild Saturday afternoon in March. The pub was fairly busy with a mix of different punters and a group of lads on a tour of the area. The atmosphere was calm with a chilled downtempo soundtrack playing in the background and the rugby on mute. The service was great, the team were welcoming and friendly.
The @angelcityroad was pleasant pub experience. The beer selection will please the masses, the ambiance convivial and the service on point. This pub is well worth a look if youāre in the area.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreI booked The Angel for a Sunday roast when my family came to London for a visit. Sadly I wish Iād just cooked a roast at home. When we came in we werenāt greeted in anyway or given menus. There was no table service. We were told there was only beef left which was fine. 10 minutes after taking our order weāre then told the beef was going to be 40 minutes. Again fine (even though we were starving). We ordered a Camembert to snack on. It arrived and was hard so we couldnāt dip anything in it so we asked them to bring a new one. The roast dinners then arrived and Iām not joking the āroastā potatoes were barely roasted. They looked and tasted boiled. The vegetables were cold. I had a quiet word with manager to one side explaining my dissatisfaction and said I expected a discount which she agreed to. Apparently they were having issues with the oven but if that was the case they should have just been honest at the beginning. The food and the service was honestly terrible. I would not return. No effort was made to turn our experience around. It was just lot of excuses and trying to ignore us. A very bizarre and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAwful experience. Lunch with a group of 10 and the conversation throughout the visit, and afterwards, was about how bad the experience was and how rude the staff were.
Taking orders promising medium rare burgers, to be served by the most overcooked burger I've found in old street. And then told they would never accept a burger order that's not well done (the staff argued the point and the waiter promised the burger served was still medium rare, it was not.)
Staff made mistakes on orders and brought the wrong food, rather than apologize they complained that they were really busy with o be dealing with this (I guess that's our fault, and we're not busy waiting 45mins for the wrong food to be served)
Even the orders that were correct the good all around was incredibly...
