Style Over Substance at The Bugis
The Bugis Singapore Restaurant, located inside the elegant Bailey’s Hotel in South Kensington, sets high expectations with its beautiful interior and refined ambiance. However, both the food and service fell short.
We ordered the Hainanese Chicken Rice, which was reasonably priced but ultimately quite average. The sauces were authentic, and I appreciated that the meal came with a nicely prepared soup. However, the main component — the chicken — was underwhelming. One plate came with breast meat, the other with thighs and drumstick. Fortunately, we had both ordered the same dish and were able to share, as we both prefer leg meat. If we hadn’t, one of us would have ended up with a portion we didn’t enjoy as much. It would have been better had we been asked for our preference or offered a more balanced mix on each plate. The chicken portion itself was small, especially compared to the generous serving of rice, and the presentation lacked polish.
Service was the most disappointing part of the visit. One of the waiters was clearly new and being trained during service, while the more senior staff member focused heavily on instructing him. Rather than doing this discreetly, the guidance was given in full view of guests and in a way that didn’t come across as especially courteous. When the senior waiter brought our soup — one bowl in each hand — he was still mid-instruction and not paying full attention, which resulted in the soup spilling into the underplates. He placed the bowls down without acknowledging the spill or addressing us directly, which added to the sense that guests weren’t the priority.
The restaurant itself is beautiful and has real potential, but the experience didn’t reflect the elegance of the setting. With more attentive service and refinement in food quality and presentation, it could offer much more than it...

We booked a dinner table for ten 7-days before-hand, but when we arrived at the agreed time, no space reserved for our group at all. We had to wait in the entrance for 30 minutes, then they gave us a table for 6 only and the rest 4 of our group still had to wait. When we talked and reasoned with the manager about their sloppy service, the manager said that "you may leave if you like." We of course refused his suggestion. Then, the manager tried to separate us into two sub-groups. That was a total shame
The services were poor, the waiters were sloppy, as poor as the manager, who bears the badge name David.
Portions served were astonishingly small.
The gratuity should have been paid out of discretion by the customer at the end of dining largely depending on the quality of services received, but this restaurant robbed you forcefully 15% of the total consumption
We have been to many restaurants in different continents/countries, such as USA, UK, Singapore, Hongkong, Scandinavia, Turkey, France, Italy and China etc, this Bugis Street Brasserie homed in the Millennium Hotel Gloucester in London is the worst ever restaurant that we have encountered.
If the owner of this restaurant is a franchise-partner of the Millennium Hotel chain, it is time for the hotel group to reconsider the partnership, otherwise it may seriously dampen Millennium...
Read moreWe walked in and asked for a table for two. Paul the manager automatically discriminated against my friend and i who are both black, and were casually dressed. There were empty tables all around but Paul sat us at the back in the bar. Whist sat at the back, we heard a man ask for a table for two, and he was taken to a table with his partner some 5-10mins later - without a reservation. We ordered alot of food (bill came to £80) and some of it was dim sum. We needed to know what had what ingredients (pork / prawn) and in the 30mins we waited until we finally asked where our last dish was, no one came to check on us or how our food was. When our last dish arrived we Asked to speak with the manager. I expressed all of the above and Paul proceeded to deny all of it, speak over me when i was explaining the issue, put his hands to his head as though i was crazy, and say “what do you want Me to do”. He also accused me of calling him racist which we quickly reminded him that i used the word “discriminated”. His customer service was -10, his demeanour unfriendly, and overall this experience was the worst. Considering the last time i went here i brought in my dog, it just shows where people of colour are...
