This has been an interesting experience, first issue I encountered was trying to get a beer in the bar at around 11:30pm and being refused, for context it’s advertised everywhere online that the bar stays in service all night for guests. The supervisor Fi was extremely nice and even though she wasn’t working at the time she went and speak to the staff and managed to serve me. So I refrained from writing this review because I thought it was just an exceptional circumstance. But then, last night, as I came to my bed someone was sleeping there, who told me that was assigned that bed. I realised there was some sort of issue with the bookings and instead of calling the staff and having to move this person late at night I just took the initiative of moving to another bed. This morning a person of staff with blonde hair which I never got the name came to me in an extremely rude manner and told me I was banned from the hostel because I changed bed. Let me remind you it was their mistake in the first place that led to double booking a bed and I was the one who had to move bed in the middle of the night. In all fairness it was the showing of the World Cup and the pub was busy and there was only two people taking care of the pub, so I get that, I’ve worked in this industry for seven years and I know the staff was frustrated but it doesn’t excuse being rude to the “guests”. Read moreThis past summer and fall, I have been staying at different hostels. I am the owner of a solo traveler online magazine. I have been trying various hostels to share with my followers, family and friends. I wouldn't recommend people stay here.
Since 2002 I have worked as a housekeeper, front desk, grounds maintenance. I have worked in various capacities in hospitality since I was 13 years old. I am now 37.
Having been a returning customer this and last year, I have spent close to 1,000 here. This past week, I experienced harassment from a customer. A staff member, one of the chefs was incredibly rude, unhygienic and falsely accused me of something I did not say because I called him out on his rude behavior.
When I asked the staff members to prove what I said. They could never prove anything. I never even got an apology.
I had a terrible time of the month the last several days. I couldn't keep any food down. I was in terrible period pain..I asked them for several days medical exemption til Monday. It's embarrassing enough to have to explain why I was sick.
After everything that has happened, after the stress I went through, I asked for one more medical exemption day, just so I could get my bearings. The manager barged into the room and told me to leave.

We've stayed at multiple hostels during our 3 week backpacking trip, some are nice, some are sketchy, but this... Our room was not fit for human habitation let alone travel lodging, you'd be better off sleeping on the street. The smell in our room was so foul that we were gagging the whole time, and just long enough for us to pack our bags and leave.
I raised these concerns to the front desk and they seemed to be aware of the issue and lent a sympathetic ear. They said they would honor a refund for our stay while we checked out to go find another accommodation. However they said that we had to raise a request through Hostelworld, which later promptly waived their hands and said nope.
The hostel has since been ghosting every attempt of mine to contact them directly about the refund they said they would honor.
I think this is a scam, they probably rebooked our same room to some other poor sods and pocketed the money. They know the room is cratering on illegal but are still making reservations.
Unfortunately the only recourse at this point is to dispute it through the bank. So enjoy your 70£ review Publove.
