I was actually quite shocked by the service/quality of food we got from here, after reading the reviews me and my girlfriend were excited to try what seemed to be a hidden gem. Firstly the service left a lot to be desired, when we arrived I walked in to ask to sit down and barely got a response, when my girlfriend asked for a glass of tap water she was told she could only have still/sparkling bottles of water, denying a customer a glass of tap water is illegal but we are not pedantic people so we still looked forward to our meal. The starters were actually decent even though the portion sizes left A LOT to be desired.
I ordered the lamb shank for my main dish, after the tandoori chicken being cooked so well I was very excited to try the lamb, sadly it wasn’t up the scratch whatsoever. Some parts were cooked nicely but other parts were either undercooked or very very overdone. The presentation for the lamb was awful too, it was just thrown on a mountain of vegetables with a sauce all over it, I did not look good at all. The bread I ordered was terrible, the nan bread was underdone and in some parts the dough was raw.. the roti simply wasn’t roti.. it was over cooked and hard and it had absolutely 0 flavour. The rice was fine but then I guess if you can’t do rice correctly then you have big problems.
My girlfriend ordered the king prawn curry, she said the sauce was tasty but the prawns were not good quality and tasted old. Her nan bread by all accounts was fine but all other aspects of the meal were a big let down.
We only seemed to get a smile out of the waiter once we left, when we arrived the place was empty and other restaurants on the street seemed to have no problem attracting customers. Given that, if I owned this business and I was previously empty on a Wednesday night not long after things reopened I would make sure whoever came into my establishment was made feel welcome and looked after. Our bill came to £63 and I asked to pay with card, the gentleman who had been “looking after us”for the evening very bluntly asked for cash and when I told him I had none and nothing was mentioned about cash before he just walked away and grabbed the card machine, then made a point of saying “no service charge, not included.” Very rudely and walked away. To the owners/management I would recommend firstly you don’t get fake reviews as in the long run people WILL find out, probably explains why the people of the local area were not coming here. I work in hospitality myself and I know how hard it can be but your staff really need training in their customer service skills.. we will...
Read moreWARNING: FRAUDS!! LOOK OUT FOR THE MANY FAKE 5* REVIEWS!!!! We were tricked into coming to the restaurant by the amazing reviews, and it couldn’t have been more disappointing!! It made me question the validity of the reviews and I was not surprised to find most of them to be fake. Click on 99% of the 5* reviews. The reviewers all have submitted only 2 reviews, which I thought was strange. Click to read those reviews and they are both for Khans Battersea and Khans Epsom! For hundreds of people to have only reviewed their two establishments, and nowhere else, would be a VERY unlikely coincidence...!
Toilets were extremely old fashioned, with a nail brush above the sink, and one single hand towel for all customers to share. Absolutely not adhering to COVID-19 regulations. Menus were visibly dirty- wish we had left the restaurant at this point.
Poppadoms, pickles and starters were tasty- this was the only positive. Ordered two different curries - we are big curry eaters and love spice- we have eaten at a lot of curry houses over the years and can say with full conviction that this was THE WORST curry we have EVER eaten.
Both curries were completely tasteless, with no spice at all, dry meat, chunky hardly cooked onions and peppers. It was appalling. We had ordered our curries to both be spicy, and when we said to the waiter that they were very mild he said “English people don’t like spice so we don’t do them with green chilli so they’re not too hot” This was completely insulting!! Especially when we had asked specifically for them to be spicy.
They also asked to be paid in cash which is not advised at the moment due to COVID-19, despite having a sticker on the door to say they accept all sorts of card types - bizarre. Finally, they won “online chef of the year” last year which they seem to be very proud of. I’m assuming this is solely based on customer‘s online reviews - it’s just so insulting to those restaurants who are working so hard to make fantastic food, and to receive genuine reviews to be up against a diabolical restaurant who give themselves fake reviews.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
(I would never give such a scathing review, but genuinely felt like I was robbed in broad daylight by this restaurant. If a medical practice gave itself fake reviews they would be shut down- I don’t see why a restaurant should be...
Read moreAverage food. Pretty decor but awkward atmosphere due to miserable and deceitful staff. (But waiter was kind and helpful). Booked for a large group and prior to booking enquired about tastecard. It was confirmed tastecard can be used. Tastecard allows 241 mains for up to 10 people. On the day, they went against their policy on tastecard and only allowed 241 for one person. I would not have booked here if this was stated before. I also didn’t think a company could overrule their agreement with tastecard as and when they wish. Something which we will be speaking to tastecard about. Worst of all, the bill arrived and we were significantly overcharged. The bill was just a piece of paper with some squiggles and a price at the bottom. They didn’t provide us a breakdown of the bill and when we spoke to them about being overcharged they told us that the menus we had been given are actually the old menus and the prices have now increased. For starters this should not be allowed - you cannot allow people to order based on one price and then charge more. You must honour the price advertised. However this proved to be a lie anyway as the in store menu on their website is what we were given in the restaurant. We were deceived and made to pay take away price which is about £2 more per dish and with a large group this meant that the bill accumulated to a lot more than it should have. We definitely won’t be returning. It’s a shame as we gave them so much business being a group of 30 as they are usually rather empty on weekday evenings. Just felt like we had been...
