Although this happened a while ago I still am frankly traumatised by what happened. I ordered their vegetarian burger and my friend ordered a meat burger. When it arrived, they gave me the meat burger and gave my friend the vegetarian burger. I've been a vegetarian for 5 years and have had many vegetarian burger substitutes before, and a lot taste and look quite meaty and have a meaty texture, so when I bit into it I didn't think of anything of it at first. It was also incredibly dark in the bar as many of the light bulbs were dead so we couldn't exactly see what we were eating.

My friend then realised that she had the vegetarian burger, and that was when I realised I had the meat burger. I felt so sick it's honestly a horrible feeling. I went up to complain and the server and the manager blamed the situation on me, saying that I put my hand up when she was handing the meat burger, when I didn't. The manager then proceeded to ask me 'Well what do you want us to do about it?' and did not sympathise at all. I was not given a refund for this, which retrospectively, I should have been given. I felt so sick for the rest of the night and still feel guilty to this day.

This situation could have been handled in a much more professional manner. To be gaslighted by both the server and the manager is disgraceful and frankly insulting. It truly is a shame as this was my first and last time visiting this place despite living nearby. Myself nor my friend will be coming here again....

Three years ago, I posted the short review for The Fat Walrus, just saying "Really excellent Sunday roasts". They are excellent, and I have to say that we've never had anything but great food at this pub. BUT, after last weekend, we'll think before going back again.

There were three of us, and we had great food as usual, but we felt the bill was too high. They have restaurant prices anyway, but we thought something didn't add up. We questioned the bill and, after more than ten minutes, we discovered that we'd been charged over £30 for beer that should have been around £17. When I questioned how that could have happened, the member of staff said "I must have pressed the wrong buttons". We'd also been charged £1.50 for 50ml jug of extra gravy (I'd asked for a bit more because there wasn't much on my plate). Never had to pay for extra gravy before, but they're charging £30 per litre! When I questioned this (I had not been told there would be a charge), the staff member just said "sorry".

It's a lovely pub with a nice outdoor area, and we probably will go again, but not to eat. If you eat there, enjoy the food, but our advice would be to check your...

The Fat Walrus is the place I visit probably the most often in all of South East London. I've been coming here since it was called The Old Haberdasher. The new owner did an excellent job improving the place, particularly the back garden which is now fantastic all year long.

The pinnacle of the place for me though is the food, the burgers are amazing, the coleslaw generous and to die for, chips well made. If you come on Sunday you can have one of the best roasts in London.

Even with chef changes over time the quality have been top notch.

The staff rotation has also been quite minimal and the new members seem to fit right in. They always are friendly and check up on you during your meal.

If I was to ask for any improvements it is to bring back the cakes, go back to the old steak(instead of the chimichurri one) and start offering some of the...

We came across an ad (or post on IG or FB) for tacos somewhere so visited this place to see how good they really were. It was pretty empty when we got there with just another family on another table. The beer menu is your standard types (which is mostly good for my taste) so no complaints there. The main star of the show is the El Comelon taco menu. There were a range of classic authentic mexican options. You get 3 to a plate, which is just enough. There is also some other sides like tacos with salsa or guac. We got Al Pastor and fish tacos. The Al pastor I felt were a little too chewy - but did have an amazing taste. The fish tacos, full disclosure, taste like corner fish'n'chips fish wrapped in a tortilla. They did taste good though, so don't feel like you shouldn't get them. Overall recommend.

A good range of local beers, nice food menu, beer garden and variety of spaces to hang out. What’s not to like? Located on the slightly odd one-way triangle as Lewisham Way comes into New Cross (by Goldsmiths Uni), this gastro-pub is in the New Cross / Walpole style. Tables are made with hefty industrial pipe and large varnished plywood tops. Some have comfy benches, while outside is more picnic table in the beer garden. You can sit out front … but it’s on the main road. The staff are friendly and efficient. You can order via the app, at the bar or just by asking a server - having the choice is nice. The beer menu is the kind that was edgy a few years ago but now seems common place. The food menu similarly isn’t that adventurous but has what you want.
