. The Marquis of Granby đ322 New Cross Rd, London SE14 6AT đ New Cross Gate đș £5.50 Cruzcampo
The Marquis of Granby is located on a busy junction in the heart of New Cross in Southeast London. The are two stations close by, New Cross Gate is the closest.
This Victorian pub started life as The Marquis Museum and was originally owned by Hoare & Co. It was subject to a significant refit by Charringtons in 1936, at either side of the pub youâll see âHouse of Tobyâ ceramic signs.
The mural around the pub was added in 2017 and is called âBy the Wayâ commissioned by @artmongers
This is good size one bar pub that is traditionally decorated. At the centre of the pub is the original island servery that services all areas of the bar. The decor consists of dark fielded wall panels, conventional seating, velour banquettes and a proper pub carpet. There are lots of interesting features around the pub, there is a trophy cabinet, articles about the Titanic, a number of branded mirrors and some artworks. The Irish influence is prominent also, there is County Donegal flag, a signed Donegal GAA shirt and some huge photos of scenes from Ireland.
The beer selection offers a choice of mainstream beers, a couple of craft and two cask ales. I decided on a Cruzcampo, my pint hit the spot, price point was below average. There is no food menu at present.
I arrived just after opening at 1pm on a bright Saturday lunchtime in January. The pub was fairly quiet with a few local punters watching the Luton v Millwall game on the many screens around the pub. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed, I had a good look around then settled in to watch the footy. The service was great, I was served by a lovely Lady who was warm and welcoming.
This pub has a Jukebox, hosts a Pub Quiz, shows Live Sport and has DJ nights also.
One of the main reasons I love exploring Londonâs pubs, is visiting oldschool independent pubs like this. The heritage of the pub, the charming decor, the local pub atmosphere, the nod the emerald isle and the welcoming hospitality made for a fantastic pub experience. I absolutely loved it here, get the @marquisnewcross on your list.

Read moreTwo words best sum up the Marquis. PROPER PUB. Down to earth boozer with a lovely cosy atmosphere. Great mixture of locals and students from the neighbouring Goldsmiths Uni. Perfect place to meet up before heading over to The Venue nightclub across the road for a boogie. The beer lines must be well looked after. I've not had a cleaner pint of Strongbow anywhere else...oh and the jukebox is one of those clever clever digital systems that enables you to pick virtually any song you...

This pub is like stepping back in time, it makes you nostalgic for a place youâve never been and a time you donât remember. Reasonably priced and service that will make you forgot youâre in zone 2 and not in...
