The staff (and particularly the manager) at the fence were very rude to us on friday 11th May 2018. We had booked an area for a group of around 30 people. We were standing in this area for the whole evening yet on two separate occasions the bar staff "cleared" our drinks which included two over half full bottles of wine. We had purchased bottles of wine to share but they were taken away without staff checking who's they were. We had to go to the bar twice to say that a nearly full bottle of wine had been taken from our table. They had put the bottles to the side of the bar as if they were planning on selling it again by the glass. They acused us of not drinking the wine quickly enough and that we should have been watching it every second. We would not expect bar staff to take drinks from our tables and hence were not expecting our wine to disappear. When we asked why they had put the 3/4 full bottles of wine to the side rather than thrown away they said "well we wait to see if anyone comes to ask for it". To me that says they actively take your drinks so either you buy more drinks to replace them or they can re-sell a glass or two from the bottle. When we challenged why this happened on two occasions, the manager spoke to us very rudely and told us it...
Read moreWe went to the Fence for the leaving drinks of a colleague. One of the group was asked for her id. To mention she is 29 years of age. Unfortunately she didn't have it on her but she did have a photo of her id. She showed this to the bar tender who didn't want to except it. However she was allowed to buy drinks for her friends but they refused to serve her alcohol. How does that work? She by no means looks under age.
We tried to reason with the bar tender but she just refused to be helpful. I then tried to have a reasonable conversation with the manager who did not want to be reasonable at all and did not want to budge. I even asked him to look at her and make judgements bit refused to engage. This is not an lawful reaction but a pure power trip for the management.
So our great night out is ruined and our friend cannot enjoy herself with the rest of us, which also make our evening less enjoyable. So if you look for a great night out,...
Read morePopped in to The Fence for a breakfast meeting this morning at around 9:15. Was told that the chef wasn't in but we decided to stay and just have coffee etc. I ordered a juice that was listed on the menu at £4.65. It turned up as 1/4 pint tumbler which was full of ice and 3 gulps of juice. It took 10 minutes to arrive. We then sat and talked for 10 minutes but then had to stop as we couldn't actually hear each other over the noise of a delivery coming in from downstairs. I asked how long this may go on for and was told at least 20 minutes, so I asked for the bill. This totalled £7.10 for the juice and a cup of tea. I questioned if the price of the juice was correct and all I got was 'YES'. No offer of a copy of the receipt. Just staff who didn't appear to want to be there.
So in summary: Terrible value for money and terrible service. I crossed the road to Starbucks for some peace and quiet and a friendly face. You get the...
