This pub was a FORMER favourite of ours but seems to have changed and has taken a *drastic downwards crash. Firstly, they're staff hadn't a clue about the products they brew. When I asked about what brown ales they had, the bar tender's response was "Well, it's beer... I suppose all of them are brown" - no humour intended unfortunately. Secondly, their pizza menu is an embarrassing joke. After paying for two pizzas, I was informed the order would be "called in". 35 minutes later, two cold and undercooked pizzas arrive from a *take-away and two cardboard boxes are dropped on the table. Cutlery, plates and even napkins were an ordeal and took another plead tothe bar tender to sort out. "yeah, well see, we really don't 'serve' food here. " was the response. At the end of this, the takeover bar tender came over and asked: " So how is everything, gents? " " ummm, we'll, we've had better" And responds, "yeah, well I suppose it's always better some place else, isn't it...." At this, I could only shake my head and smile. What was once a unique place in Acton has now just become another watering hole.
Sorry about your luck, Dragonfly. Beer just can't stand on its own in the microbrewery world if you can't pair it with food, informed staff...
Read moreThe George & Dragon is a traditional British pub located in Acton, London. It has been serving locals and visitors for over 200 years and is a spot for a drink or something to eat.
The pub has a dreary and barren atmosphere, with dark wood paneling, exposed beams, and a fireplace. There are several different areas to sit, including a large bar area, outdoor seating and dining area. There used to be a bar at the front where you could enjoy a good conversation with the locals but this has been replaced with some weird coffee bar setup.
The food menu at The George & Dragon is extensive, mainly Thai with British dishes as well. The beer selection is okay with different beers on tap.
The bar staff are miserable and unwelcoming. It seems if they smiled their faces would crack. Not even a hello or thank you. Come here if you need to, shame as the history of the place is amazing but the service is appalling. Can get busy when a band is playing but empty most of the time.
I took a friend here and she said that she never wanted to come here ever again. Sums...
Read moreMoved to the area recently and very quickly fell in love with the George; it's a great little historical pub with a lovely selection of beers and ales, a nice atmosphere and attached to a Thai restaurant
However, very recently my friends and I came in for a few drinks and some food, and found the food had dropped significantly in quality. This wasn't a huge issue as we raised this with one of the women at the bar who, upon being told the food didn't taste seasoned, proceeded to tell us "this isn't a restaurant" followed by "that's just how it's made".
The same member of staff is also always very standoffish at the bar, seems to always be miserable and makes ordering very awkward, which is a shame because her colleague seems to be super sweet, welcoming and chatty.
I understand a workplace environment can R daunting, but this person seems to have no manners at all and is actively off-putting. My friends and I have since decided to move our regular pub and no loner go...
