Having had lunch at the pub which was very good I was excited to go for Sunday lunch. I asked very politely if I could change my roast potatoes at this they were very dry and appeared old ! Both the waitress and the manager told me it couldnât be so as they had been freshly made so I politely said okay went to my table and asked for the bill. The manager then proceeded to tell me that I was the only person ever that didnât like the potatoes that he tasted them and they were. Delicious and I can only say began an argument in front of all of the other tables I was really embarrassed. It really wasnât the way to deal with a customer asking for a change of one item on the plate! Itâs also not nice to have somebody else tell you what you should like. And in most restaurants (in my experience ) considering I had practically eaten nothing on the plate may have offered not to charge for the food or even suggest to discount it. I must add, I had asked for the bill had not expected anything ! The appalling way he dealt with the situation was shocking, especially as I was a solo eater and reminded him on two occasions that I felt embarrassed by his continuous attack on my opinion about the food! Otherwise this looks like a nice place. It has a lovely outdoor garden if the service was in anyway pleasant I would recommend the venue. So I ended up paying over ÂŁ39 for meal I didnât eat with one...
Read moreI visited The Grange for the first time last night with a group of friends for their pub quiz. After winning a free drink during a quiz round, I politely asked if I could swap it for a dessert (of the same price or cheaper than most alcoholic drinks on the menu), given that I had already ordered a main meal and several soft drinks (I donât drink alcohol). The bar manager rudely dismissed my request with a condescending ânice try, she can have a soft drinkâ.
The situation only escalated when I ordered a glass of wine for my friend, and the bar manager had the audacity to invade my personal space by bending down to my level and asking if I was going to âdonateâ my drink to my friend. This behavior was completely uncalled for and unprofessional, undermining what was meant to be a highlight of my evening.
Given that my friends and I had spent a substantial amount of money on meals, drinks and participating in the quiz, it was baffling to be treated in such a way over a perfectly reasonable request. I won't be returning to The Grange, and I sincerely hope the bar manager takes a moment to reflect on why someone might not be drinking as well as the importance of respectful customer service. His actions not only tainted our evening but also risk damaging the pubâs reputation - unsurprising to see other reviews also complaining about this...
Read moreI was once a fan of the Grange but after a recent visit am no longer:
The range of beers is quite limited and not up to much. There are pubs within 10 mins walk that offer better beers for the London same prices. The food is below average. I had the buttermilk chicken pieces - not a lot of chicken and soft oily coating that felt unhealthy and unenjoyable - turn the oil temp up. Some of my table had the roasts which they described as 'meh'. Whilst the staff are nice I observed an unpleasant interaction with another group in the bar. The manager berated them for bringing cup cakes in for some kids who were playing in the sofa area with grandparents. From overhearing his chat he was being quite rude about him not being able to 'mark up' the cup cakes and having to clean up the 'crumbs from the floor'. Rightly the large group left.
Pubs in London have moved on. They have good food, good range of beer, welcoming to families and are busy. I'm not surprised the grange in now pretty quiet on the weekends. It's no longer as welcoming as it was and the food and drink don't merit a visit. I hope it can improve and be a gem in the...
