I was 5 minutes late for my class on Saturday morning as old Kent road gets unpredictably busy on rainy days. A blonde lady was kind enough to open the door and told me that ‘The area is not safe so they had to lock the door during the classes.’
I was then marked to have missed the class even though I tried my best to locate the entrance on my first visit. I was also charged extra on classpass after I’ve kindly asked if they’d be understanding and mention my effort of attendance to the instructor. Side notes, I would have biked if it wasn’t rainy and in the past year I have been late to places with strict door policy (which is completely necessary for the experience of other members, don’t get me wrong) Neither of them marked down missing including one of them offered a slot in the following class I could join since I’ve made the travel there. I’m not asking to be above the rules, I’m writing this review to make aware that this studio is unusually strict in comparison and regardless to any conditions. Perhaps this place is new and needs various ways to earn extra from their bookings?
Surprised by statement about the neighbourgood safety, the experience makes me wonder how many of those businesses do consider women’s conditions. Especially women with diverse background who are more prone to crimes (cit, London Knife Crime Strategy) and face accessibility barriers.
All in all, it was my fault needing better time management. Although I’d very much prefer to support business that understand the flexibilities needed in diverse female’s day to...
Read moreThis studio opening has been the absolute highlight of my fitness life in the past year! Finally a place within short walking distance of home that offers everything I need in a studio, including the best and most welcoming trainers and a lovely community of women. Katie and Georgia are top tier trainers who create challenging but accessible workouts, they are also pre & post natal qualified which has been a godsend for me as I’ve navigated my first pregnancy with their support and encouragement. Saturday strength class with Chiara is also a dream with lots of laughs and good vibes. I was scared of strength classes before coming to this studio, now I love it!
This is a small environment where you get to know the other attendees week after week and it really feels like a proper local spot.
If you’re feeling unsure, don’t be afraid to give studio soma a try. I can’t recommend it highly enough and I’m excited that I get to come back for their...
Read moreI was recommended to join the small group personal training programme at Studio Soma by my partner who had trained with Katie previously, and I'm so glad I did! I'm a couple of months into the SGPT programme now and it has been quite transformative for me - this is the first time I have actually looked forward to exercising since I played team sports as a teenager a long (long!) time ago. Katie is a brilliant trainer - super encouraging and supportive, and really good fun. Her programmes are very thoughtfully designed - it's clear she loves what she does and is incredibly knowledgable about it. Most wonderful of all is she doesn't make us do stupid things like burpees! There is a great vibe to the gym, it's a beautiful space and it's already building a lovely sense of community even though it's still relatively new. Cannot recommend Studio Soma...
