CALLING ALL MOTHERS, EX PAT’S AND LOCALS to boycott Hummingbird Cafe. There customer service is horrendous and enough is enough. After being a loyal customer for years and years, birthdays for children, friends, family, work colleagues, I will never order another cake or cupcakes again. Arrived at 6.05pm on a lovely July summer evening to be told I could not buy cupcakes or anything. Had planned all day to go there and buy cupcakes. The till was closed. Nasty manager was rude and unobliging. Couldn’t leave cash or put a transaction through in the morning. He told me to walk to South Kensington, a half an hour walk. Each store closes at a different time but the attitude and nastiest was so off putting. We need friendly accommodating businesses not nasty mediocre ones that treat customers rudely. Cupcakes are supposed to make you happy, not ruin your day! I have put up with poor service for years but no more. I will tell all my friends and colleagues to find a new customer friendly cake shop. They don’t deliver and this shop has had poor customer service as has South Kensington with long lines for years. Go elsewhere! Not...
Read moreI haven’t been here for 5 years due to moving away, so upon moving more locally again I decided to revisit as I used to love it and visit various branches regularly. I couldn’t get enough of the red velvet!
The gentleman in the shop was upbeat and friendly, cannot fault him at all. However, the prices were only just worth the old prices I remembered them being but now the quality does not match the steep cost. £5.45 for a slice of red velvet cake £6.10 for a few others!) that was dense and very much on the dry side is pretty poor. A 10 second blast in the microwave on the defrost setting improved it marginally but there’s no real reason freshly baked, fully frosted, covered and cut to order cakes should be dry. The issue seems to be with the recipe, or not being as fresh as they may seem.
I always remembered the cupcakes being better than the slices, I suppose this was where I went wrong. I’ll come back to try the cupcake version again and probably a slice of the mile high cake as it looks fantastic but if they’re a similar quality to todays red velvet slice I don’t suspect I’ll be tempted to...
Read moreWhat more can I say after Visionally Spectacular, gorgeously scrumptious and delightful textured. These Hummingbird cupcakes are honestly the best I’ve had so far. Now as the French Toast connoisseur of recent I’ve branched out of my comfort zone as I do enjoy many other eateries, Hummingbirds gave me a great experience:
Red Velvet cupcake: Always Iconic, now this is a signature cupcake . This is what Hummingbirds is about! Black Buttom cupcake: Basically white icing on the outside, Chocolate within and at the bottom. Nice. Chocolate & Hazelnut cupcake: Surprisingly my Favourite, balance between the chocolate and the hazelnut worked tremendously well just really enjoyed the balance. Cookie & Cream cupcake: Looks exciting, it’s good. Salted Caramel cupcake: Least favourite, wasn’t as good as the others, disappointed expected more caramel within the cupcake could have been terrific. Biscoff cupcake: Always delivers, I haven’t seen it before, looked like a NEW addition. Biscoff always wins IMO enjoyed the Biscoff spread within the...
