I went here with a group of friends for our annual Christmas lunch, and so we all ate from the festive menu. Unfortunately it was ruined by bad food and bad service. There were items missing from some dishes (we were assured repeatedly that the kitchen had put them in, but this was plainly not true to those who actually ate it), and there was smoked salmon which looked more like bacon. Worst of all was the vegetarian dish - this was supposed to be some kind of celeriac creation, but was replaced by a very dry-looking veggie burger. We raised this at the time and were told that we had requested not to have the celeriac - again, this was not true. My friends offer to show the bar staff the email in which she ordered our meals (a week earlier!) was met with an answer of 'it doesn't matter, you must have told us some other way'. Even the food which did arrive as ordered was not great - most pigs in blankets had no blankets, the turkey was especially dry, the potatoes were undercooked, the 'bread and butter pudding' was in fact slightly dry cake (with admittedly very nice baileys ice cream). I would say that the food from the usual menu that we saw delivered to other tables looked significantly better, so it may just be a lack of attention to the festive menu, but we still all felt strongly enough that we should post a review to let other people know that this is not the place for your...
Read moreNice atmosphere and friendly bar staff, but AVOID sunday roast. Ordered a beef roast and was surprised when it arrived thinking they had forgotten the meat. It was there however, two tiny and tough pieces of beef hiding under a soggy subpar yorkshire pudding. My friend and I literally laughed out loud at the child sized portions (once the person who served us was out of earshot). The sides were also minuscule and lackluster. Also the lager my friend ordered had a pretty obvious buttery/toffee diacetyl smell to it. My ESB was good, seemed fresh. After I paid I politely mentioned my reservations about the portions to the manager who happened to take payment and she told me that maybe the portions aren't what I'm used to at "the type of pubs you usually go to" but they aim for quality not quantity and they're not "trying to fatten people up." I didn't have the heart to point out that the quality was rubbish too and don't like provoking pub staff as I've worked pubs as well. Probably a nice spot for a pint, but eat at your own risk and skip the frontier...
Read moreIn my opinion The iron duke is one of the most traditional and family-friendly pub. Riding boots are decorating the walls, the place is old fashioned and retaining the tradition of a nice British style pub. The wooden floor and the wooden decoration in general is also remind you that. The staff is very friendly and ready to help always with a smile. Mr. Barrick’s pork pie is the best seller, it’s delicious and worth every bite. Though, I believe that it would be better if they had more dishes to choose. It had a good selection of beers to try. For sure I would pay a visit again. You could say that it would be the perfect place to...
