Overall good but so so so many small dumb things they fail with.
Beautiful hotel, staff is excellent, good location close to soho. Staff found us places to eat, reserved us a cab for the next day, ridiculously helpful.
The room itself is where things went really downhill. It’s definitely one of the smaller rooms me and my wife had in the area but it isn’t too bad. One of the flush buttons in the toilet didn’t work, no big deal but just the first thing I ran into.
Bathroom is very very compact. The shower size and configuration didn’t make much sense and it’s basically impossible to shower without water getting all over the place.
There’s no power outlets or usb ports on the right side of the bed, just a lamp. Sort of minor but also like the absolute most basic thing anyone ever would expect to see in a hotel room after the year like 1997. Zero excuse to not even have like a lamp with a usb port. (This one kinda bugged me)
The mini bar next. It’s not super pricey and it also has a decent selection. However they hoard it like they’re the Smaug dragon inn. In order to get a coke or chocolate bar you have to call down to the front desk to unlock the mini bar. Idk who’s buying a £400 a night room just to scam the place out of their £3 7-up selection. Also, one of the cans was open and half empty so it’s not appearing that they care much to check either. Possibly because turndown service would have to call to the front desk to unlock and check it. Edit: also forgot to mention the pop I got was 3 months expired.
Another minor gripe is there are video inputs at the desk in the room that I took as outputting to the tv, they in fact do nothing though. Maybe they are old or something but at this expense I’ve of a hotel I would think they should either work or be removed, pretty simple.
Overall nothing ruined the experience. I stayed at 3 other places that after the experience I just though “wow great, no issues”. Bloomsbury was the most expensive and from hour 1 I had all these little gripes with the room. Tons of simple issues = a larger problem.
I’d give a 3.5, but the staff brings the experience up. I hope they can resolve some of these easily...
Read moreWe stayed for six nights at The Bloomsbury Hotel at the end of August. The new Elizabeth Line made it easy to travel from Heathrow Airport. The hotel is a two-minutes walk from the Tottenham Court Road station.
While the initial impression of The Bloomsbury might seem quirky, as their main entrance backs up to the brick wall of a playhouse, the experience quickly becomes personal and friendly. The doormen are attentive and ready to help with your luggage up the steps to the reception area.
We were checked in by Eva, who brought a cheerful and eager-to-please approach to her work. She took her time explaining the available amenities nearby and the ins and outs of the hotel.
We stayed in two rooms since we had made separate bookings. Both were very comfortable and quiet. The proportions of the rooms are more in line with European hotels, but had a luxurious feel and there was ample space in both to move around and unpack. My wife particularly appreciated the evening turn-down service.
The doormen are not just there to carry your luggage. Ivan and Antonio frequently checked in with us as we came and went, offering helpful advice on where to eat and what to do. The Bloomsbury is ideally located for visiting the British Museum, which is about a five-minute walk away. The area is filled with charming shops and cafes. Covent Garden is nearby. For shopping enthusiasts, Oxford Street is easily accessible from the main tube intersection.
Breakfast was a highlight. The wait staff engage with you, inquire about your stay, and discuss your plans for the day. We enjoyed talking with Tanya, who shared her stories of leaving Ukraine and her journey to joining The Bloomsbury. We also received exceptional service from Tara and Mohamed. The hotel's bar, the Coral Room, and Dalloway Terrace restaurant are elegant and have great food and drinks.
Having stayed in many hotels around the world, we would rank The Bloomsbury at the top of our list. It offers great value and a genuine sense of being part of the local hotel community, making it feel like home while...
Read moreStrange hotel that had default settings to switch off the A/C every few hours in every room. Had to wake up in sweat every night just to switch it back on. The engineer that was sent to investigate after I gave feedback to the front desk didn’t rectify the issue. Endured this for the entire week I was there. Turned out… all my colleagues who stayed there endured the same thing.
Had a business meeting early on Monday morning. Horrified to discover the water supply was cut in the shower. Only a tiny flow of steaming HOT water was available at the basin. Placed a call to notify the hotel, only to be told there was nothing that can be done for me. I was to wait an hour for the maintenance personnel to arrive. When I had a morning meeting to get to…. Seriously?!? Had no choice but to collect the hot water from the tap, mixed with remaining bottled water to brush my teeth. Had to endure the scalding hot water, wet the hand towel to use and freshen up for the day ahead. What a way to start a busy week.
Asked to split the bill to be charged on 2 credit cards. However, received an emailed invoice with ALL the charges in 1 document. No thanks for giving me additional administrative work when filing my business expenses. Guests request for a split bill for a reason. For goodness sake, it’s basic. Get it right.
Someone entered my colleague’s room while she was out and had her Samsonite luggage slashed open. Police report was made. Thankfully nothing was stolen (cash and passport was with her) but it was the experience with the hotel that left a bad taste. Whole situation was badly managed, hotel appears to be focused on only one thing - absolving themselves from blame.
The only saving grace for the minimal 1 star rating given is the pretty lounge area with a nice fireplace and the friendly porters.
Will I stay...
