My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed the 8-course Chef’s Table Nepalese dining experience over the festive period.
Jon is a master of his art - although not Nepalese himself, he credits his Nepalese staff for inspiring him to set up this restaurant, having another fusion venture in Shoreditch called FU:DIZM that I’m excited to try out.
Although it was a shame they didn’t have their alcohol license yet (Jon assured us this was imminent), there is a bar that’s usually open in Market that you can buy a drink from at the same time as enjoying your meal at the counter.
Onto the food…be warned - for those who enjoy mild food, this is not for you; many of the dishes played with Timur pepper and other spices. The dishes were all beautifully presented on different plates and Jon spoke passionately about each dish, providing us with the inspirations for them.
The stand-out dish for me were the crispy sweet chilli lamb momos with scotch bonnet and coriander jam but truthfully, all were incredible. The portion sizes were generous and I’d go as far as saying that some of the dishes should have been smaller because each dish was better than the last and it meant there was little space in the end for the scrumptious dessert!
I’d highly recommend this restaurant to anyone interested in trying out new and exciting twists on Nepalese cuisine.
A big thank you to Jon for being so delightful and providing us with such a...
Read moreWas quite disappointed with my meal. I ordered the veggie thali for £17 which came with 2 panipuris, one momo, one steamed dumpling, channa chatpate and a plantain pizza + chutney and roti. The panipuri was awful and unfortunately I ate it whole as a panipuri should be eaten. There were soya bits inside as described in the menu but the puri itself was thicker than normal and the pani which was given sparingly although looked insta-worthy when served in a little shot glass could barely be tasted in the puri. The channa chatpate was good unlike the dumpling which was chewy and lacked filling. The chutney and roti were the only redeeming part of the meal but I wish there had been dal on the menu for me order. I was a bit surprised that I was only given the POS terminal to pay without a chance to look at the bill. I paid but asked the owner for a copy of the bill upon which he just showed me the individual items price on his POS terminal. There I noticed that we were charged £5 for mineral water which was already placed on the table. Seemed a bit sneaky to me at this point. Perhaps if I hadn’t felt disappointed with the food, I wouldn’t have cared as much. All in all, I won’t be returning to The...
Read moreWent for the EatWith Nepalese 8 course dining experience. It was amazing! I’ve not done one of these experiences before and was really looking forward to being able to watch the food being prepared, speak to the chef and enjoy some tasty food. It didn’t disappoint!
What made it even better than I expected, was the portion size and the attentiveness of Johnathan e.g. constantly refilling our water glasses whilst cooking for us and other diners. I’ll be back for the same experience again and other food that he does :) it was super tasty and excellent value.
I should add that I’m not a fussy eater, but always find myself a bit underwhelmed with food when I go out to eat in London, especially given that it’s not cheap. This meal exceeded my expectations and is the best food I’ve had in London for a long time.
NB if you like bland food that’s not spicy and flavoursome,...
