Picture this - it’s 5pm on a Thursday. All the pubs everywhere are jammed pack full of people. Your original pub of choice is too full of people for you to muster the bravery to walk in. So you search the next nearest pub- The Marquis. Shoutout to your doorman for seeing my friend’s scrunched up face and asking whether we were here for food! Otherwise, we would have never discovered this gem of a place. The cozy pub upstairs was a stark contrast to the boisterous bar down below, and a welcome relief from the hoardes of people standing outside. My friend was extremely happy by the music choice - The Beatles, her being an extreme ā€œbeatlemaniacā€, as she refers to herself.

While service and atmosphere was excellent, I am sorry to find the food medicore. We ordered the beef pie to share, and it was reminiscent of wet cat food, not that I’ve had any. I enjoyed the hummus dip and appreciated the pita being broken into easily snackable portions. On the otherhand, the halloumi cheese and cod proved infallible.

Overall was a good experience in the...

What a fun pub this! Dating back to Dickens’ era, its history has carried on to this day through many incarnations, now of music—rock, punk, jazz, Motown, and downright funk. No canned music, they have a turntable where the crew play actual platters, LPs to 45s from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. You can request songs, and amazingly, they can find ā€˜em in their vast collection. The bar is staffed by folks who manage to have a blast and are continually cutting up and joking with each other whilst pulling pints and mixing drinks. The atmosphere is youthful and the clientele as eclectic as the dĆ©cor. If you’re looking for something offbeat, both nostalgic and contemporary, this place is a fine time waiting to be had! The restaurant is upstairs, and they occasionally have live music on the weekends. Closes early on Sunday but...

We always use this great little pub when in town. We were 5 guys and a lady. It was Saturday 1/6. The pub was packed with German and Spanish football fans, the atmosphere fabulous. We stayed for about an hour, then went to eat. Coming back to the pub for another 2 hours. Our average age maybe 65. The whole time, while spending good money, there was not an issue at any point, with any member of staff. None. In the early evening a security man, spoke to our group, we didn’t understand what he was saying, but at all times we were courteous. We had 3 military vets with us, we were having a great time. Completely out of the blue, he informed the staff not to serve us. We were so offended, that we left quietly. Our behaviour the entire day, was on point, we still cannot understand, what we...

This family owned pub is very popular among pub groups on Facebook and I can see why. They had four cask beers on offer and I opted for a Ghost Ship, very reasonably priced at £5.50. The theme of this pub is music, from the vinyl records dangling from the ceiling to the multitude of memorabilia all around the pub. You can choose an album to play from behind the bar and they will play it on an old style record player. They also have live music and other live events on a regular basis. The service was excellent. It is not a large pub but there is a designated standing area out back, while some customers prefer to drink in the street at the front. This pub does get busy and a lot of groups on pub tours come and go. In summary a must do pub if you are in the area.

Although the pub is called Marquis Covent Garden it is close to Charing Cross Station and not Covent Garden. We were looking for a pub for an afternoon meal and we came across this small family run pub. It was busy in the downstairs bar which is always a good sign. Upstairs we visited the bar restaurant called Fagin's Den which has recorded Rock and Pop music on TV as it claims to be a Rock and Roll pub. We chose a classic fish and chips mushy peas with tartar sauce and a Steak and Ale Pie which was filled to the brim with meat and a massive pastry on top. Both meals were tasty and enjoyable. We washed it all down with a medium Vinho Tinto and a pint of Bulmer's Cider. We recommend this pub for a good meal and drink especially if you like Rock and Roll
