I recently had the pleasure of attending the phenomenal performance of "We Will Rock You" at Coliseum Theatre, and I am still buzzing with excitement! From the moment the curtains rose to the final curtain call, the entire experience was an absolute thrill ride.
The music was nothing short of fantastic. The iconic songs of Queen were flawlessly performed, taking the audience on a nostalgic journey through some of the greatest hits in rock history. The talented cast showcased their vocal prowess, capturing the essence and power of Freddie Mercury's legendary vocals. Each note was delivered with precision, passion, and an infectious energy that had the audience singing along and tapping their feet throughout the entire show.
But it wasn't just the music that left me in awe. The visual effects were nothing short of mind-blowing. The stage came alive with a dynamic fusion of colors, movement, and special effects, transporting the audience into a world where rock and roll reigned supreme.
The entire cast, from the lead performers to the ensemble, delivered outstanding performances. Their talent and dedication were evident in every scene, capturing the essence of the characters and bringing them to life with charisma and authenticity. The energy they exuded on stage was infectious, and it was clear that they were passionate about delivering an unforgettable experience to the audience.
The Coliseum Theatre itself provided a perfect setting for this electrifying production. The acoustics were excellent, ensuring that every note and lyric resonated throughout the venue. The comfortable seating and unobstructed views allowed for an immersive experience, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the magic unfolding on stage.
In conclusion, "We Will Rock You" at Coliseum Theatre is an absolute must-see for fans of Queen, rock music, and incredible live performances. Read moreThe last time I was here, a small seat on an upper tier corner with very limited leg room, helped to spoil the experience, but that was many years ago. This time (June 2023) was to see the limited run of We Will Rock You and the experience was very much better. As in most of the West End theatres, a bag search is carried out before entry. In this case, the box ticked must have been 'Yup, carrying a bag' :-) with the process taking less than five seconds. The London Coliseum is the largest theatre in London seating over 2,000 for stage performances. Our seats tonight were in the Stalls, so downstairs. Where to go was not immediately clear, but the many staff around were polite, professional and very helpful. The seating rows in the Stalls were well-tiered, and had good upholstery padding, and were very comfortable. Leg room was also very good. The show, We Will Rock You, had many bad reviews during the opening couple of weeks, but this was certainly not our (Sister, her Husband and myself) experience. Having seen the original show, ? 25 years ago at the Dominion Theatre, Tottenham Court Road, this show was amazing. Apart from the cast who were all more than just good, displaying their athletic ability in great choreography number whilst belting out the numbers, the settings and lighting really stand out. This had really been brought up to date with lots of recent event references in the script, and the use of back projection images was mind blowing. Given the show, the audience was invited to join in for some numbers, think clapping to the beat ;-) and did so with great abandon. I just cannot understand why people complain about this show. It is not as if they don't know the plot :-). Summing up, great Theatre and world class show. Now can I book tickets before the show ends on 27 August ? Might be a Birthday Treat...
Read moreThe cast was decent, but if you’re expecting a production that matches the scale and polish of a film adaptation, you might be disappointed, even the music.
That said, the set design was truly impressive—full credit to the production design team for creating such a visually stunning environment.
However my view of the performance was flawed perhaps. While I understand and fully respect the importance of maintaining a quiet environment during a performance, I felt that the way we were treated reflected an underlying racial bias that went unacknowledged by the staff.
During the show, I briefly checked my phone to look at the time and to monitor work emails, and my sister did the same to ensure her unwell child was okay. There were no clear announcements or signage from the production team indicating that phone usage was strictly prohibited, other than the general request to keep devices on silent.
However, we were singled out by a staff member named Will, who approached us after a complaint from a woman nearby—someone I had noticed pointing at us earlier. It was concerning that her issue seemed specifically directed at us, while she said nothing about others (of a different race) around her who were actually talking during the performance. This inconsistency in how complaints are made and addressed felt racially motivated and left us feeling uncomfortable and...
