🚇 Borough 🍺 £6.95 Cruzcampo
The Miller is located in the backstreets of Borough close to Guy’s hospital. The nearest Tube is Borough and London Bridge.
This pub was originally called The Miller of Mansfield, built in the 19th century. The pub was rebuilt in 1965 along with the Kipling council estate in which it was designed to serve.
This is a one bar pub that is a good size that has an eclectic quirky feel. The servery is centrally located and is clad in dark panelling with a solid mahogany counter. The bar area has a variety of sections with a different blend of lighting, unique artworks and furniture. The seating is a mix of tall pews, conventional tables and chairs, a couple of Chesterfields and a comfy banquette. Upstairs is @hooplaimpro ,an improv theatre and comedy club. In the basement is a rehearsal studio for bands. To the side of the pub is a patio beer garden.
The beer offering mixes mainstream beers with an excellent choice of four cask ales and two real ciders. I decided on a Cruzcampo, my pint hit the spot, price point was expensive. The food menu is burgers, wings, loaded fries and a variety of sides, all burgers cost £11.
I arrived at 4pm on a chilly Saturday afternoon in February. The pub had just opened and had a few punters dotted around. The atmosphere was laidback, the dimly lit ambiance made for a comfortable setting. The service was pleasant, I was served by a nice chap who was courteous.
The post war built pub is a rare find in London these days. It was great to see that this pub has survived and reimagined itself supporting the arts and local musicians. @themiller.se1 is popular with students and hospital workers at nearby Guy's, so hopefully this aids to the pub’s longevity. I enjoyed my visit to this quirky boozer, it’s well worth a look if you’re in the area.

Read moreThis pub definitely has potential however, a particular staff member was really ruining the night. He seemed to be running things as he was showing everyone to their tables and also telling people off and was very rude and cheeky about it. I will say we had been drinking and probably not sticking to the rules of 6 on one table as we were in a book group outside previously. So we were being told off for this however, when the football game was on it didn't seem to matter about the rule of 6 that this staff member kept telling us off repeatedly for. He was quite rude to us and we were spending a lot of money, he even had the cheek to tell my friend off about him not wearing his mask properly and said wearing your mask hanging from your easy isn't really wearing your mask. Now he is someone that works there and the appropriate way to speak to your customers is to say sorry sir but, would you mind wearing your mask correctly. If he had of spoken to us in that way rather then the aggressive way he spoke to us numerous times maybe we may have listed. When the night finally ended we went outside to wait for our ubers and he then yelled at us for standing in front of the pub because of the residents. I told this man after I had an absolute ear full of his persisting rudeness that whether we wait outside the pub or on the corner we still have to wait for our ubers so what is the difference. Honestly I have never been to a pub where a staff member was that rude where I felt that they really tarnished the...
Read moreAfter having bumbled along in the pouring rain we arrived soaking wet to find that we were a whole 24 hours early for a cider festival (OK, our mistake!). My partner and I decided that as we were here, we'd stop for a bite to eat. This was probably one of the best ideas we've had for a very long time. First, they served perry - and a choice of them too. A few small samples were provided to help in choosing what to drink as well. Second, the food. Gluten free options are available, as usual that takes a few choices away from you but what remained was more than enough. And what's more, what turned up was something that you'd actually want to eat. Finally, the cost. I'd challenge you to find something of the same standard for the same price in the surrounding area.
We left very happy for the bus back to Tower Hill... and sometime after we bumbled our way into Elephant & Castle... we took the right bus, just not necessarily in the...
