All in all very disappointing experience for the price! SPOILER*
Firstly the location of the venue is in a very sketchy area! It’s quite difficult to get to and far away from all bars/ restaurants it’s by a housing estate where the MOT garages around. I feel like this is an experience that should be suitated somewhere closer to other bars/ restaurants so it's a lot more accessible to get to. The cocktails are extremely overpriced and you get a service charge when ordering drinks through the QR code. The bar staff don’t like taking orders at the bar and insist that you use the QR code which add service charge. I didn’t feel like this was very fair as when you order at the bar you don’t get an extra charge. You’re already paying around £90 per person plus service charge just to go so it feels very unreasonable that they do this to people! Before you start the experience they also take you to a booth where they try and sell you hats, feathers for £12.00 each I also thought this wasn’t okay as any other immersive experience dress you up without an added expense. The food was ok nothing special in my opinion! It definately wasn’t filling and the portion sizes were very small. Starter was very peppery to the point where quite a lot of guests were coughing. Desert was a cold apple tart would’ve been nicer warm. The plot was terrible! I was expecting a lot more It seemed very contradictory as you got to witness a murder that occurred from natural causes and no one actually committed the murder. The story could’ve been a lot better and nothing was properly explained. There was a lack of guest interaction and all we got is a character occasionally sit don on our table. I feel like it would’ve been better to hear every characters story on an individual level to be able to figure what happened. The play gets acted out throughout the carriage this can be quite annoying whilst your eating as you want to watch and eat the seating arrangements don’t seem to help you do both. All in all very disappointed, it wasn’t worth the money! There a plenty of other immersive experiences such as Alcotraz or cowboy saloon that are half the price and much more enjoyable! Please don’t make the same...
Read moreEverything is well timed, so ensure that you are ready at the venue at the time instructed. As soon as you enter the doors you are already inside the action. The welcome staff are part of the action and you immediately feel like you are boarding the train. Whilst you get settled with a drink (they have a QR code system to order drinks) some of the actors start to introduce themselves, mingling amongst the audience. You are given the opportunity to buy a newspaper (which we mistook to be free and required as a tool to help solve the murder mystery. The newspaper cost £2.50 which I felt was rather steep. But was a souvenir of sorts). The baileys cocktail was good, as was the old fashion. Once you were in the carriage all the action took place, and during the scenes we were served our different courses. You could continue to buy drinks using your QR code throughout. Each table seated 6 people, so if you were part of a group less than that, you were seated with strangers. The amuse bouche and starter were very disappointing. A boiled tomato and then a sautéed leek. Ot would have been better if they combined the costs and time for these two courses into one and made it better. The chicken and beef mains were tasty. The chocolate was very rich, but probably the best course of them all. Nearer the end we felt more rushed to eat dessert and get out of the carriage; so the next audience could enter. The toilets being part of the design set was a nice touch, as was the station soundtrack playing in the background on the speakers. The toilets were unisex and there were only 3 available, so timing is crucial. The actors were hilarious and they handled some obstructive audience members well and with charm. This is not really a who dunnit mystery where the audience try to deduct the murderer. Instead it was more a an immersive comedy theatre show. I managed to get a good deal on Groupon, which made the whole experience...
Read moreEver wondered what it feels like to have your dinner served while someone gets murdered right in front of you? 😂
Well, at The Murdér Express, you won’t just watch the drama unfold, you’ll be part of it. Yes, you eat, you observe, you laugh, you raise your eyebrows suspiciously… and suddenly the actors talk to you. Surprise! You’re involved in the story now.
The whole cast goes all out from the costumes, accents, dramatic stares, even seductive eyebrow raises. They commit, and I respect that.
It’s not just a meal. it’s a full-on immersive mystery experience with a touch of cabaret chaos and vintage flair.
Now… is the “train” really moving? Nope. It’s more like your imagination takes the wheel. The decor sets the mood beautifully, but the windows play animated views that feel a little… PowerPoint.. No background sound of train wheels either, so it felt more like a VIP cabin in a library than a roaring locomotive. But hey, quiet murder is still murder, right?
Also, one actor played two characters by simply changing outfits, which confused me at first. I thought the guy just had a wardrobe malfunction mid-scene. And while the food is nicely plated, don’t expect Michelin-level fireworks. Think of it as dinner theater where the theater is the main course, and the food tags along politely.
One small heads-up: unless you book as a group, you’ll likely share your table with strangers. Could be a fun social twist—or a mysterious challenge of its own 😅
In the end, I left full.. not just in stomach, but also in story. If you’re up for an experience that’s different, bold, and delightfully strange, give this train a try.
Just don’t pack your suitcase expecting it to actually leave...
