Walked in this evening looking forward to a roast dinner and a catch up with my friend. The first thing I asked the female bar tender was “do you have everything available on the roast menu?” And she quickly replied yes and proceeded to double check the till and assured me that they had everything available.
I decided to order the roast chicken for £18.50 (which I never normally do) because I noticed that it was accompanied with pigs in blankets and a bacon stuffing which sounded lovely. My friend ordered the nut-roast (she’s vegetarian). The food took a rather long time and we patiently waited. Once our dinner had arrived, the first thing I noticed was how the vegetables were very minimal, three tiny pieces of carrot and two slices of parsnips (I was half expecting them to bring out a separate bowl of veg). Next to my dismay I realised there was no bacon stuffing and no pigs in blankets (the whole reason I ordered the roast chicken). I immediately went to the bar to inform them they were missing and the girl behind the bar went to speak with the chef. She came back a few moments later to say that they had actually sold out of the stuffing and pigs in blankets and had now noted that on the till and could offer me some beef croquettes or Hallumi fries instead. I was rather unhappy about this as I had already asked if they had everything, but I decided to order the halloumi fries and I also asked if they had any broccoli or greens that I could have instead. The lady came back and said the chef will do the halloumi fries but that they didn’t really have any greens as it’s “late in the day”. Again why wasn’t I told this when I originally asked? Instead they sent out half roast dinners without informing us and hoping we wouldn’t realise what was missing. So we proceeded to ask if we could have a second replacement item as two things were missing (maybe some chips?) however their supervisor told them that the halloumi fries usually cost £7.50 and are substantial enough to cover the missing items. WOW. For starters I never wanted the halloumi fries, I wanted what I ordered and never received but also i paid £18.50 for half a dinner. Maybe they should have kindly refunded me the £18.50 and I would have happily paid the £7.50 instead. However by this point I had already eaten some of the chicken because I was starving and so they were not willing to refund anything. Might add nobody apologised for this mistake!
I have attached a photo of my friends nut roast to show just how little veg there was (also had to ask for my gravy!), unfortunately I never took a photo of mine, I wish I had! Comparing this photo with another review from 3 months ago, ours looks like it came from a different restaurant.
This was our first time here and it will be our last. What a negative experience and put a real downer on our Sunday! I would suggest if you want a Sunday roast to look elsewhere as the price they charge compared with what they offer is...

Read moreWe were a group of five meeting for Sunday lunch with mixed dietary requirements and in theory the menu appeared to offer something for everyone. So that, linked to its convenient location, decided our choice of the North Star. Having pre booked our table things got off to a bad start when we were shown to a booth that was patently too small but that was easily rectified.
Ordering was straight forward but the problems began when the food arrived. We had ordered one vegetarian roast and another one but as the vegan option as clearly stated in the menu. Unfortunately the young lady serving us seemed to not know what was on the menu and had no concept of what the vegan option was so we were quite concerned as to what we were actually served with.
Potentially the nut roast could have been half decent but unfortunately both of the servings that appeared were overcooked and in places so hard as to be inedible as were some of the accompanying roast potatoes.
So there is definite room for improvement both in staff training and awareness as well as the output from...
