I recently visited your pub last Friday and had an extremely disappointing experience with the bartender. From the moment we walked in, the bartender was unfriendly and seemed annoyed by our presence. When we approached the bar to order, he ignored us for several minutes despite there being no other customers waiting.
When we finally got his attention, he was incredibly rude and dismissive. He made us feel unwelcome and acted as if serving us was a huge inconvenience. We visit the pub every Friday night because of the garden and you guys serve the best Guinness out here. I had never had this experience and never expected to. The bartender with a cap and an Italian accent, I suppose, was very rude. He filled up our Guinnesses 3/4 and the rest was all foamed up. I went back to ask him to fill the glass up because I did not pay for having 70% of the beer obviously. He totally ignored me and told me to my face that I have to adjust with whatever I was served regarding the quantity.
Another bartender who was a bit older was very kind enough to fill it up. The older bartender was very polite since our arrival and treated us like valued customers. The other bartender with the Italian kind of accent was visibly upset by this and teased the older bartender very badly in front of all the customers. I really felt bad for him. The next time we ordered, we had our beers filled up by the older guy, who perfectly filled our glasses up. I mentioned to the rude bartender that 'this is how we wanted the beers'. At that instance, he came out from the till up to my face saying 'I will throw you out if you say something like this here after.'
Later when we went to the entrance for a smoke, he came out to pick a fight with me. As he was really close to my face and speaking, with him showering his spit all over, I asked him to move a bit back. He then spat on my hand. I was all ready to have a fight, but even me acting all unprofessional is not going to make a difference between me and him. He told me that he is the owner of the pub and he is throwing us out and not welcoming us hereafter. And I have no plans to visit you guys hereafter too.
I know this is not going to make any difference but would be great if everyone came to know about that bartender. But if so, I would really...

East Ham Tube is just over a ten minute walk away. . The Red Lion formerly (The Hammers) was built in 1841 which makes it East Ham’s oldest surviving pub. This is a red brick two storey pub which is clad in claret tiles in homage to this pubs heritage as a staunch West Ham United pub. The pub was refurbished back in 2018 and the pub’s original name reinstated. . The decor here is contemporary and has an American bar feel to it. The are exposed brickwork walls which are accentuated by red neon and led lights. This one bar pub has a good size bar and a pool table to one side. The beer choice is straightforward and well priced, I had a pint of Amstel which was an enjoyable pint and cost only £4.40. This pub has a strong pizza offering so I thought I’d try one out. I had the Salsiccia E Friarelli pizza which has Italian pork and chilli flakes on it, my pizza was fantastic and I couldn’t finish it, it was so filling. Price point was good, most pizzas cost around £13. This pub also offers roasts on a Sunday. . The pub opens at 4pm during the week and I arrived just after opening. The atmosphere was relaxed and calm with a few locals in attendance. The soundtrack was British indie and American rock which created a inviting ambiance around the place. The pub has live music nights, DJ nights and quizzes to keep you entertained. The service was great, the staff here were very personable and nothing was a problem. . Read moreI’m originally from East Ham, but I live in West now; every now and then I go to East Ham to visit family and old friends. When I catch up friends and family, I usually go down to the pub or to a restaurant in London, but hardly ever in East Ham. It was until a friend told me about the Red Lion, I was intrigued and wanted to give the the new pub a try.
The staff were very kind and welcoming, which you don’t really find that kind of customer service in East Ham; unfortunately. On two occasions that I’ve been to the Red Lion, I was having rather a bad day. Andy, the boy from the bar who works at the pub, was very kind to me and welcoming, and made my day (as so did the rest of the staff). It’s a lovely little pub; it has a very “Shoreditch” feel to it, which is probably why there was mostly adults age 25+ there. I love the interior as well, as I’m an interior designer too; the up-cycling and original brick wall on the right hand corner of the pub was such an amazing idea, and really gave the pub quality, class and lots of character, and edge; Don’t even get me started about the pub garden, amazing, so chilling, makes me feel like I’m in Greece!
It’s a great/lovely little pub in the heart of East London; great customers service, the employees show a lot of care (unless they’re really good actors lol!), and respect, very clean, presentable, and amazing interior; what could you want more in a pub?! Other than to get drunk in the middle of a Saturday afternoon on rosé, grapes 🍇 and...
