Josef and his daughter are the stars of this place but the rest is really lacking. We came as a group and had a booking for weeks and were seated in the bar area by the door, rather than the main restaurant, where literally everything is happening. We've asked to be moved and they tried their best but we had to wait 1.5hrs in the end in wich we've been very neglected. We had after an hour the sausage plate, which I find almost an insult, a tiny luke warm selection of sausage bites for £10. The pretzel had 0 salt on it and was chewy and moist on the bottom. The best thing was the sweet mustard that came with it (which is however from the jar obviously). The other staff members are sadly highly incompetent and not particularly fun or friendly. We then shared a veal schnitzel (very small), Schweinsbraten (overcooked, almost no gravy) and cheese fondue (the fire to keep it hot wasn't working and the bread was stale). Nothing was hot, it was all just luke warm and felt reheated. The cucumber salad and Sauerkraut we've ordered on the side were nice. I had to get up multiple times to ask for the flame to be fired up again, for another round of drinks and just for some level of service and attention. For such a pricey restaurant, I woukd expect checkbacks and looking after. Coming from Germany, I was surprised to be paying £100 per head and still being hungry and also the lacking quality of food and service. The entertainment is superb. You clearly come here to see Josef perform but in that case I would eat elsewhere and come for 1 Stein. It's way to expensive for what you get! And the service is shocking. Not what it used to be which is a shame because we came back because we had a great evening before but we won't again after...
Read moreMy dinner at the Austrian restaurant Tiroler Hut between Paddington and Notting Hill Gate was one of the most enjoyable meals in recent months. It is a busy place, and I wanted to eat there before and could not get a table. But finally I managed to get in and it was a pleasure.
I do not know why, but everybody, guests and staff alike, seemed to be smiling and happy. For all I can tell, the nice little restaurant Tiroler Hut simply sports a great vibe. Most servers also speak German, so if you would like to buy your schnitzel in German, you can even do that.
Starting with some bread and butter, my meal began rather average. Unfortunately, I was not in a wine mood that evening, but the wine list read quite promising. I will definitely get an Austrian white the next time I go there. For the main, I went off menu. I asked for a Wiener Schnitzel with spaetzle - you could probably describe it as a special kind of pasta - and gravy. When I ordered, I was a bit disappointed that they only serve pork an no veal. Anyway, it was worth going off menu. My main was really delicious. A good escalope, a delicate gravy and tasty spaetzle. You could argue that the spaetzle were a bit small, but I won't. They were good. That's it.
Of course I could not skip the dessert. Continuing with the Austrian theme, I went for the Apfelstrudel. And what should I say, it was heavenly.
Altogether, I had very good food and just a great time at Tiroler Hut. No doubt, I will come back. So far, this is probably the best German or Austrian restaurant I...
Read moreGreat atmosphere but the food is overpriced and not great quality. Josef is brilliant. He creates a traditional Austrian atmosphere playing Tirolean tunes and playing the cowbells which was all lovely. The food however was disappointing and overpriced. My friend is vegetarian and there was very limited choice. We both had ķäsespätzel and it was more like a reheated macaroni cheese than anything I've eaten in Austria. We had kaiserschmarm for dessert which wasn't very fresh and was served with a small portion of what appeared to be tinned prunes or maybe cherries.....we weren't quite sure. I've been to this restaurant a few times before and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food used to be very authentic (I've lived in Austria) but sadly the current chefs don't appear to be to the same standard....
