The Wrong Un proved to be a really nice pub in which to spend an evening. The first time I have been there for about 20 years but will definitely be back soon! It's a Wetherspoons so the prices are very good (which is why we went there instead of our regular which now charges £4 for a pint of bitter and over £5 for Guinness!) The guest ale was delicious and a great price. The atmosphere was very nice - no music as is Wetherspoon's norm, so we could sit and talk. I also chose to eat (despite us arriving at just after 10.00pm - they continue taking orders for food until 11.00pm) and ordered from the Wednesday Chicken Club menu. I had crunchy chicken fillets with a honey and Jack Daniels dip, chips and coleslaw plus a pint of ale for £7.25 - now that's a good price. Although there were plenty of customers we still easily found a table where we were able to sit and chat comfortably. (As seems to be the usual practice in Wetherspoons, don't sit near the entrance as that appears to be where the gentlemen who have been there all day tend to congregate but there's was loads of room in the back section. A man on a nearby table was swearing loudly unchallenged as we approached 11pm but that wasn't too intrusive and was the only negative issue about our entire visit!) My colleague rushed to buy a last round at just before 11pm but at 11.30 we were still drinking without being hassled to leave. On the way out we learned that their normal closing time is midnight every night! Hopefully it was not a one-off, but everything about The Wrong Un on this occasion was a good experience. We'll be back soon!
We have been back a number of times.
On a separate recent visit, I was disappointed with the attitude of a very, very rude member of staff. She involved herself in a civil convertsation I was having with another member of staff, rolled her eyes at me and I asked her if she was the manager. She replied she wasn't and I said said that didn't surprise me as she would never be management material with such a poor manner towards customers. She refused to serve me and the manager came over. He was extremely apologetic but suggested that she wasn't going to serve me so it would be better if I left. As I walked to the door out of her hearing he said I would be welcome back on another occasion.
I did return on another occasion, she was there again and was very frosty to me. I have removed one start from my review due to this poorly trained...
Read moreAwesome venue for drinking and eating. The place can be a bit too much at times in terms of vocal noise as it gets so packed with people on account of the cheap deals they have. We have been here for drinks only, for breakfast, for dinner and have never had a bad experience. You simply cannot beat this place (and other Wetherspoons in the area) on anything. The quality of the food is outstanding for a place that charges less than £4 for a full breakfast and less than £6 for a full meal WITH a drink of your choice. It's fast too, they do not mess around and even at busy times they get orders out at a fast pace so you are never waiting around too long for your meal. The bar staff are good too, they have a good eye for who is next in the sometimes 2 deep bar queue. They are also friendly and helpful too. I can't say anything bad about the place because there is only good things I have experienced here and as a local I will keep going here to eat and drink until such time as...
Read moreI visited today to meet a friend for lunch. All of the side booths were taken by the 'all day' drinking crowd - ie all of them were occupied by just one person. I chose a table at the back. It was very nice, albeit there wasn't much natural light as the premises used to be a furniture shop.
The service was fantastic - I ordered via the app and it was swift and friendly. The bar tender even apologised for the wine glasses!? She was lovely.
My only beef was another couple who were sat in a booth nearby seemed rather hostile and believe me, we weren't being loud! I snapped a photo as I didn't really 'get' why they were staring, pointing and laughing. Me and my mate are autistic and as such really pick up on bad atmospheres such as these. They left before we...
