Where do I begin, I'll start from the beginning. The staff were super friendly, quick and fast despite how super busy they were. Throughout the entire service, staff were attentive, polite, and accommodating 10/10.
The biggest let down was the food, the main reason why I came this restaurant. I got 2 roasts duck and crispy pork belly, side of won ton in chilli oil, and finally the classic lemon tea.
1st the wonton and chilli oil, it was tepid.. the core of the wonton was cool. The outer part was warm, no problem they heated it up for me. The texture of the wonton was a wonton, but there was barely any flavour or depth of flavour of the wonton. Instead it felt like I was eating for substance not flavour. Overall disappointing.
The roast duck spot on, juicy and tender. The crispy pork belly, was flavourless. What defines the pork belly is the seasoning of the bottom part, then the crispy of the top. And the fat to meat ratio, there was barely any seasoning. The crisp and layer of skin was thin.
One thing if you go HK to get lemon tea is that you'll get 3 slices of lemon. You then break it with ur straw or chopsticks to release the lemon flavour. If you look at my photo... its 1 piece, and kinda mild tea. It was reasonable but not great.
Finally if u look at the last photo, that's a piece of paper stuck on rice that was in my food. It's from the rip away order sheet when they do the tabs and they impale it. when they finish the order from the kitchen. An old method of making sure the orders have been sent out. What was it doing in my food? Lucky I found it before I eat it.
Overall it was not great, it has the looks, the potential, but not the execution...
Read moreMy family and I had an amazing time at Three Uncles in Ealing! We've tried Three Uncles in other locations, so knew their food was good, but Ealing has an extra menu too (prawn toast, curry fish balls, curry beef brisket) which makes it less of a takeaway vibe (you can still do takeaway!) and more community-centred.
My family and I are from HK and found this really captured the HK food feeling! This is a really wonderful selection to get a taste of Cantonese cuisine for anyone who hasn't tried yet or if Chinatown is too far away. Their classic roast meats are delicious, and especially their lo mein! Highly recommend their Hainanese Chicken too, it was definitely one of our favourites.
Main dish portions are very generous! I preferred most of their mains to the small dishes, even though they were good too. The Cheong Fun was really nice, very classic! Personally I liked the Siu Mai without the sauce as it felt too sweet for me. I tried it again without and the siu mai was really nice too.
Finally, service was fantastic, even when it was so busy. Servers are attentive and keep watch to see if you need anything. We had especially good service from Natalie and Crystal (who also served my aunt when she came and was very nice). We also had a great chat with Jennifer who has a great sense of the point of Three Uncles and I'm sure will do a fantastic job as she continues to manage the Ealing branch. Looking forward to dining...
Read moreThree Uncles Ealing has been one of my favorite restaurants in the neighborhood since it opened last year, thanks to its delicious food, reasonable prices, and a very kind gesture from a previous male manager, who warmly assured me and my family that I could bring my own container when ordering noodle soup to go—since the restaurant didn’t provide takeaway containers suitable for soups. However, after about 8 visits from late February until now, I’ve noticed a few concerning changes. The portion sizes have noticeably decreased compared to before, and noodle & soup dishes are no longer available for takeaway. At first, the staff explained this was due to peak dining hours, which I fully understood. But on one occasion when the restaurant wasn’t busy, I overheard a new female manager bluntly say, “That dish is too much trouble, we won’t make it.” This was shocking to hear. If a dish is too “troublesome” to prepare or cannot be served, it should not be listed on the menu. Refusing a customer’s reasonable order despite having all the necessary ingredients—just because it’s inconvenient—is simply unacceptable. I sincerely hope Three Uncles Ealing takes these issues seriously and makes improvements. I still believe that with some adjustments, it can remain one of the most beloved restaurants in this...
