The food here was awful and grossly expensive and very small portions when compared to more authentic vietnamese places in London. This place was not authentic at all.
£3 for a Pukka tea bag in a pot of warm water.
Chicken Pho had boiled skin-on chicken leg meat in it. I have never had chicken skin in my Pho in any authentic vietnamese restaurant. The herb compliments weren’t even chopped up and I wasn’t given a Pho / soup spoon. The ratio of broth to noodles were off and the broth wasn’t good. More brownish broth than clear.
The summer rolls looked very amatuer like something that I could have made at home with with looked like 4 tasteless supermarket prawns.
The chef special of prawn and pork dish looked microwaved. It was dry on the top as if it was sitting for a while before coming out.
£35 bill for hardly anything.
Why did we decide to suddenly stop at an empty vietnamese, that has been open for a few hours, for dinner, I’ll never know. We now see why the place was pretty much empty. It won't be there long and we will not be going back.
There are much much better places just a short bus ride away towards Shoreditch.
In response to the owner,
There wasn't a pho spoon on the table. I sat there for long enough to know. Even look at the photos from other people, no pho spoon as it usually comes with the dish instead. Mine didn't.
If you were the owner, you were busy talking to your friends and on your laptop instead of checking in on guests. There wasn't many of us in the restaurant and we weren't appreciated.
Yes, I do enjoy KFC and maybe it would have been the better option that evening as the the quality of the food at your restaurant was was simply bad. At least I would have left full and satisfied at KFC and still would have had £20 left in my pocket.
How authentic is a Pukka tea bag in water that wasn't even hot? ...
Read moreThe prices reflect Stoke Newington but the food is only average at best. There needs to be more care/love over the food in the kitchen.
'Đồ ăn ở quán này thì không ngôn bao nhiêu mà vẫn hơi đắt tiền, thực đơn có ít món. Tô phở bò tái, giá thì £9 mà có ít bánh phở. Nuớc phở hơi mặn, nhiều tiêu đen và hành khô đã bỏ trông tô rồi, không đở cho khách làm như ý. Chả giò chiên bị cháy và nứt. Xem hình để biết.'
'The food here is not that great yet pricey for what it is, with a limited menu. A bowl of rare beef pho cost £9 but had a small noodle portion. The pho broth was quite salty and a lot of black pepper and crispy fried onions had already been added to the bowl, taking away the diner's choice of how to season. The spring rolls were burnt and had split. See photos.'
I love my country's food and am frustrated when it's poorly represented yet acclaimed, as it gives diners a false standard of the real cuisine. Sadly, Viet places exist which display lazy cooking yet reap the rewards of the cuisine's popularity.
This place is fairly new so there's still time to sort out the kitchen and raise their game. Or they could just milk the undiscerning palates who love their food as is. Fair play if that works for them.
Stokey is crying out for a decent Vietnamese restaurant, I'll try them again in...
Read moreMe and my partner had no issue with the food or the ambiance, but cannot tell the same about the service. Our feeling was that we were undesired customers. The two waitresses were not rude, but were rushing us to finish as soon as possible. Since the moment I called to make a reservation, a waitress warned me over the phone that the restaurant was closing at 10, even if I had made clear that we could arrive by 8.30. At our arrival, we made our order and were reminded that the restaurant was closing at 10. Moreover, the waitress did not share the password of the Wi-Fi (there were 2 called Uncle Nam’s) saying she didn’t know it. When he had still food in his plate and I was still eating, a waitress asked my partner if he was done, as if she wanted to take his plate away. After we were done eating our mains and our plates were removed, no one asked us if we wanted a dessert or anything else. In the meantime, we heard the reminder to other costumers that the restaurant was closing at 10 and they didn’t have much time if they wanted to order something else. In the end, we were out of the restaurant by 9.30, way before the closing time.
In conclusion: we will not come back, not with this staff.
And for everyone out there remember: the restaurant...
