During my seemingly brief and sordid few years living in Putney, 'What, a Chicken?!' surreptitiously matured into a favourite haunt of mine. It became (and still is) very popular on local delivery platforms, and it was not unheard of to be collecting and delivering food from them five or six times an evening.
The store is very handily situated at the top of the high street, very close to the train station. If you're anything like me, you might want to thunder up Putney Hill on your bicycle, before and after your chicken meal, to really utilise the incredible protein content. Your biceps femoris will thank you.
You enter through some spectacular glass doors, that provide a welcome view out on to the fabled sight of SW15. The clientele are generally very friendly, and may even applaud you as you walk in. The owners and employees are even better. They are always excited to see you, and I developed a fantastic rapport with all of them. They are meticulous when organising and cooking food for their customers, and are always up for a chat about the local gossip and business rates.
The selection is amazing. I treated myself to a half chicken meal for around £5, and it was everything that I could have hoped for. It is important to note that the man who appears to be the owner quite clearly tests the product himself. His arms are huge, owing to the high protein content in the top quality chicken he serves. He is clearly curling the 26's in the local gymnasium, and you could be too!
Good food, served by incredibly friendly, passionate and muscular poultry fanatics. I would heartily recommend...
Read moreReally amazing chicken, literally so hot it burnt the roof off my mouth. The best thing about this place is the atmosphere, it's like a private members club. I can't wait to go back, next time I'm gonna see if I can order a bottle of lemonade and share it with some friends. I can't rate this place highly enough. Also the DJ was insane, it was like being in Ibiza. I bet you any money that this place will be bigger than KFC in 300 years. Keep doing what your doing guys, the quality of your chicken and 90's house music stills my beating heart. Til next time, wow, I genuinely can't wait, seriously ignore the other reviews, this place really does need to be seen to be believed. Certainly justifies all the other amazing reviews. Must get their secret...
Read moreWent recently with my fiance for a quick lunch. I bit into my piece of chicken and it tasted like ketchup - immediate red flag because I never eat ketchup. I went up to ask the guy for a new piece of chicken and he proceeded to take it from me and take off the ketchup (with his bare fingers) before trying to hand it back to me. I had to ask again for a new piece, at which point he gave me a new piece of chicken but placed the chicken with a big bite taken out of it back on display with the other 'freshly cooked chicken'. My partner also said his chicken had a ketchup taste to it despite not adding any. I've eaten here numerous times before and have never had an issue, but this experience has put me off...
